Nintendo Switch 2 Leaks gets hotter at CES

Genki, a gaming accessory company, has been showing off its wares at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. But amidst the usual controllers and chargers, they’ve also unveiled something a bit more interesting: a mockup of the much anticipated Nintendo Switch 2

According to Genki, this mockup is based on a real Switch 2 console they had access to. They even claim that the new console will launch in April, along with some redesigned Joy-Con controllers with a few new tricks up their sleeves.

New Features: Magnets, Optical Sensors, and a Mysterious “C” Button

The leaked mockup suggests that the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons will feature magnets for attaching to the console screen, an optical sensor that could function like a mouse, and a mysterious new “C” button. While Nintendo has remained tight-lipped about these features, the rumour mill is already churning with speculation.

Could the optical sensor bring back the mouse-like functionality that Nintendo experimented with back in the Super Nintendo days? And what about that “C” button? Could it stand for “camera,” “chat,” or some other hidden function?

Further renders from OnLeaks and 91Mobiles provide a detailed look at what we can expect come April 2025.

    Nintendo Responds

Nintendo, in its typical fashion, has distanced itself from Genki’s claims, stating that the mockup is not official and was not provided by them. “Any gaming hardware that Genki is showing at CES claiming to be Nintendo hardware is not official, and was not provided to them by Nintendo,” the company said in a statement to CNET. But that hasn’t stopped the internet from buzzing with excitement and speculation.

    The Switch 2: A Long-Awaited Upgrade

Rumors about the Switch 2 have been circulating for years, and with the current Switch showing its age, a new console is eagerly anticipated. While Nintendo has only officially confirmed that the new console will be backward compatible, these leaks suggest that there are plenty of surprises in store.
