28 Years Later: Welcome To The Land Of Zombies

The Rage Virus is back and is more deadly than ever. Sony Pictures brings you the new instalment of the “28 Days Later” series, “28 Years Later”. Directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, this third instalment propels us nearly three decades beyond the initial outbreak that redefined the world of zombies

The trailer opens with the most haunting rendition of the 1915 recording of Taylor Holmes reciting Rudyard Kipling’s poem “Boots,”. This immediately sets an eerie and unsettling tone of doom. We see scenes portraying immense decay and chaos than were present in 2007’s “28 Weeks”. The vintage spoken-word piece intensifies the atmosphere and is enough to send shivers down your spine.

Chilling visuals of burning graves, towering skulls, and a solitary figure are seen. The solitary figure being none other than Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Jamie), a survivor living on a remote island in the United Kingdom. Jamie is armed with a bow, prowling through the desolate landscapes. Jodie Comer is clutching a child to her and Ralph Fiennes amid a creepy temple of human bones. These visuals capture the terror of the original “28 Days Later”, but serve to introduce fresh elements that hint at an even greater societal collapse.

The narrative centres on a group of survivors residing on a small island, that is isolated from the mainland by a guarded causeway. The little peace that surrounds them is disrupted when Jamie ventures into the mainland. Uncovering mutated and infected survivors whose humanity is in question. This premise echoes the themes of societal collapse and human savagery explored in “28 Days Later” and its sequel, “28 Weeks Later.”

There is a fleeting moment in the trailer that features a gaunt and withered zombified rising to its feet in striking resemblance to Cillian Murphy. Hinting at a possible return of his character, Jim, from the original film. The return of the  Oscar-winning Oppenheimer actor has ignited widespread curiosity and excitement among viewers.

“28 Years Later” is intended to be the first of a planned new trilogy of films about the rage virus outbreak. The movie promises to delve deeper into the horrors of the Rage Virus. Exploring not only the evolution of the infected but also the moral decay of the survivors. With its release set for the middle of the year, I’m sure audiences are eagerly awaiting the continuation of this harrowing saga.I know I am!

    About 28 Years Later

When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.
