Do you often feel like you are fighting one battle after another. Well, you are not alone, Leonardo DiCaprio is in the same predicament as you in his next movie from Paul Thomas Anderson. The trailer for the riveting action thriller “One Battle After Another” has been released and stars Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role. A movie which is inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1997 novel “Vineland” which is about a “zone of blessed anarchy in Northern California that is the last refuge of hippiedom,” per the book’s synopsis.
One Battle After Another centres on a group of former revolutionaries who reunite after 16 years to help their wacky, disheveled member, Bob Ferguson (DiCaprio) to save his daughter. The trailer begins with Bob Ferguson in a beanie and a bathrobe, scurrying through a store and twitching his eyes. He rushes to a payphone, where he gives the operator a number of codewords, including “there are no hands on the clock.” It is clear that Bob is not the most competent when it comes to remembering the codewords that are required and provides some dark comedy with his responses.
Flipping to another scene we see a desperate DiCaprio on a phone call with a mysterious figure saying, “This is Bob Ferguson. I was a part of the French ’75. Steve Lockjaw just attacked my home, and I cannot remember, for the life of my only child, the answer to your question.” He adds, “I need to find my daughter.
Benicio Del Toro plays Bob’s sensei and teaches him how to live without fear by getting him to do things he would normally pass on. Teyana Taylor, Regina Hall, and Alana Haim co-star as DiCaprio’s fellow activists. Sean Penn plays a white nationalist leader. Shayna McHale, Wood Harris, and Chase Infiniti, who plays DiCaprio’s onscreen daughter.
