New Superman Saga Chapter Coming Soon, Confirms James Gunn

Since its release on July 11, 2025, Superman: Legacy has swiftly become a cornerstone of DC Studios’ revitalised shared universe—Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The film, directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet, has pulled in over US $580 million globally and emerged as a financially strong, vibrant reboot for the Man of Steel.

At the premiere of Peacemaker Season 2, Gunn revealed he’s already completed a “very, very worked-out treatment” for the next story within what he calls the “Superman Saga” per Empire. Rather than a straight sequel, this next chapter promises a broader exploration. A project where Superman plays a major role, though the narrative may expand beyond the traditional solo hero focus.

“I’m hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today,” Gunn said, suggesting the project’s development is well-advanced and production onset could come sooner than expected.

This announcement arrives amid a flurry of activity within DC Studios:

    • Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is due June 26, 2026, and has already wrapped filming.
    • The horror-leaning Clayface is preparing to begin production soon.
    • Meanwhile, Peacemaker Season 2 which will be premiering August 21, 2025, on HBO Max, will directly follow events from the new Superman film, further interweaving the cinematic and TV arms of the DC Universe.

This progression signifies James Gunn and Peter Safran’s intent to build a cohesive narrative ecosystem across film, television, and, in time with animation and beyond.

The upcoming Superman Saga installment is part of a deliberate roadmap within the new DCU. In Wikipedia’soverview of the franchise, this untitled follow-up is confirmed as a project James Gunn has penned a treatment for, with hopes to begin production soon.

This means that this won’t be a classic “Superman 2”, it’s part of a more ambitious narrative arc that still puts Clark Kent centre stage, but within a richer, interconnected world. With a completed treatment and enthusiastic statements from Gunn about going into production soon, this project is noticeably further along the pipeline than many expected. And with that the DCU strategy is clear, films and TV are being launched in close succession with intentional story linkages, building toward a diverse and immersive DC Universe.
