Lily James Dives Into Chris Hemsworth’s Submarine Thriller Subversion
Lily James is gearing up to make waves alongside Chris Hemsworth in Subversion, an underwater thriller from Amazon MGM, helmed by 7500 director Patrick Vollrath.
Billed as “Die Hard on a submarine,” the film centres on a once-promising naval commander (Hemsworth) forced by a shadowy cartel to pilot a dangerous sub packed with illegal cargo across international waters. Standing in his way? A relentless Coast Guard officer played by James, who launches a high-stakes game of cat and mouse beneath the surface.
Filming kicks off this September in Australia, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing and Stephen Shafer and Greg Cohen on board as executive producers for di Bonaventura Pictures.
James has a packed schedule beyond Subversion. She’ll star opposite Riz Ahmed in David Mackenzie’s tense thriller Relay (Tribeca debut, hitting U.S. theatres Aug. 22), and she’s also fronting Swiped, a drama inspired by Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Currently, the Pam & Tommy Emmy nominee is in production on Harmonia, a psychological drama from Guy Nattiv, and just wrapped Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo with legendary director Takashi Miike.
Hemsworth vs. James in a pressure-cooker submarine showdown? Amazon MGM might just have a new deep-sea obsession on their hands.
