Extraction Universe Expands: New Netflix Spin-Off Details Revealed

Set within the high-octane Extraction universe created by the Russo brothers, Netflix is moving forward with a spin-off series that was granted an eight-episode order back in February. Glen Mazzara is on board as showrunner, with only one cast member confirmed so far. Omar Sy in the lead role as Kalidou Diallo. While more casting news remains undisclosed, Netflix has revealed key character details just four months ahead of production, which is slated to begin in Morocco.

According to What’s on Netflix, seven new characters have been introduced. Among them is Kevin Porter, a former US Marine who serves as Kalidou Diallo’s mentor and close friend. Porter is currently head of security at a critical oil field in Libya, and when militants attack the facility, he becomes central to its defence and evacuation. Roger Ward, a high-ranking executive from the company that owns the oil field, also finds himself in danger after a surprise visit coincides with the attack.

Sy’s Diallo will also have a fiancée, Amina, described as his “rock and anchor.” Two more executives, Veer Banerjee, who is engaged, and Priscilla “Cilla” Ragab, who is pregnant, are caught up in the crisis and taken hostage. On the opposing side is Hamza Najjar, the charismatic but haunted leader of the militant group determined to fight perceived threats at home and abroad. Rounding out the cast is Clayton Wisper, the morally grey CEO of the Wisper Group, whose priorities lean toward protecting corporate assets over human lives in moments of crisis.

As the successor to the Extraction films led by Chris Hemsworth, released in 2020 and 2023, the new series promises the same intensity and unpredictability. The official logline teases Sy’s mercenary character embarking on a perilous mission to rescue hostages in Libya, caught between warring factions and deadly adversaries. The series will explore the emotional struggles of deeply flawed characters grappling with trauma, betrayal, and life-or-death decisions.

Joe and Anthony Russo will return as executive producers alongside Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Castaldi, Sam Hargrave, Scott Nemes, Peter Schwerin, and Eric Gitter. The series is being produced under the Russos’ AGBO banner, with filming scheduled to start in Morocco this December and wrap in mid-2026.
