Daredevil Born Again: The Devils Work Is Never Done

Justice may be blind, but the Daredevil who is reborn and relentless, is ready to rise again. Yes, that’s right! The much anticipated Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again is just around the corner. The new Marvel series will be a continuation of the popular MCU-set Netflix series that will premier on the 4th of March. Starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil and Vincent D’onofrio as Wilson Fisk. Here is a sneak peak as to what can be expected from the new Marvel series.

The trailer wastes no time in setting the mood and opens with a tense, darkly comedic scene between Matt and Fisk sharing a cuppa and pretending to be civil. The discussion follows the achievements of both, noting that they had not crossed paths in recent times. Following the hint at the end of Marvel’s Echo, we now see Fisk as the mayor of New York City. This signals a terrifying new phase for the Kingpin. Fans of the comics know that Fisk’s political ambitions often lead to crackdowns on vigilantes, and the trailer hints that Daredevil himself may be outlawed. With Fisk in power, Matt’s fight won’t just be in the street this time round. It will be the system.

Fisk questions why Murdock stopped being a vigilante. And in response, the trailer briefly shows Matt’s Daredevil mask tumbling off a building. Also including a shot of him carrying an injured person. And yes, while we don’t see much in terms of his close friends and colleagues,Franklin “Foggy” Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll). There is much speculation that one or both characters might not make it through the series. However, a later shot places Karen in a different setting, hinting that her survival chances could be higher

On the other hand, several other familiar faces from the original Daredevil series are set to return. Ayelet Zurer reprises her role as Vanessa Marianna, Fisk’s wife. She appears to be embracing her family’s regained power and is  seen smiling as she shares a meal with Wilson. Meanwhile, former FBI agent turned assassin Ben “Dex” Poindexter (Wilson Bethel), who was last seen as an adversary to both Matt and Fisk, is shown heavily restrained in prison. The trailer pays the most attention to Matt’s reunion with fellow vigilante Frank Castle, AKA the Punisher (Jon Bernthal). It will be interesting to see if their dynamic will feature just as much friction as it did in the original series.

In the series, Matt and Frank will be joined by a new vigilante, Hector Ayala (Kamar de los Reyes). He is briefly seen in the trailer wearing his signature white costume while battling a gang of street criminals. Another character clad in white is Muse, a superhuman serial killer who joins the series’ rogues’ gallery. Despite appearing in only a handful of comic issues, Muse has left a lasting impression as one of Daredevil’s most unsettling foes. known for using the blood and remains of his victims to create what he perceives as art.

The trailer provides a preview of intense action sequences, showing Matt both in and out of his Daredevil suit. While the series seems to begin with him having abandoned his vigilante identity, it’s clear that he will eventually return to the streets as the restorer of justice in New York. And when he does, the brutal, hand-to-hand fights in alleyways and tight corridors, will be nothing short of what would be expected from the legendary series.

The trailer ends with a strong indication that Matt’s Catholic faith will remain a central theme in the new series. This is a promising sign, as Daredevil’s religious struggles have always set him apart in the superhero genre. While grappling with the possibility that Fisk may have truly changed in his new role, Matt pointedly tells him, “I was raised to believe in grace. But I was also raised to believe in retribution.” This line perfectly captures the moral conflict that continues to define Daredevil’s journey.
