The Marvel Cinematic Universe has always kept audiences on their toes, with new additions such as Natasha Lyonne and Joseph Quinn joining the ranks alongside seasoned veterans like Harrison Ford. But buckle up, boys and girls, because this time, it’s Denzel Washington who’s set to make his MCU debut in “Black Panther 3.”

The acclaimed actor confirmed his involvement during a TODAY interview, where he was promoting his role as the Machiavellian Macrinus in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II.” Denzel revealed that director Ryan Coogler is crafting a specific role just for him in the upcoming “Black Panther” sequel.

A Poignant Reunion

This casting choice holds a special significance. The late Chadwick Boseman, who played the titular role in the first “Black Panther” film, famously stated at the 47th American Film Institute Life Achievement Award ceremony in 2019 that “There is no Black Panther without Denzel Washington.” It’s a touching tribute to Boseman’s legacy, with Washington stepping into a franchise where he once championed Boseman’s early career.

Future Roles

The Academy Award-winning actor also shared insights into his future plans, stating that he has a few more roles left before he retires from acting.

“For me, it’s about the filmmaker, especially at this point in my career,” said Denzel Washington, who is 69. “I’m only interested in working with the best. I don’t know how many more films I’m gonna make — probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done.”

“I played Othello at 22. I am about to play Othello at 70. After that, I am playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking to Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther. After that, I’m going to do the film “Othello.” After that, I’m going to do “King Lear.” After that, I’m going to retire.”

“Black Panther 3” In The Making

Marvel is notorious for its secrecy, and while there’s been no official announcement regarding “Black Panther 3,”,  the statement by Denzel provides fans with confirmation that it definitely is in the pipeline. However, the lack of details, including the specific role Denzel will play, which is being specially written in, will have the Marvel tribe on the edge of their seats waiting in anticipation. And knowing Marvel, they wouldn’t have it any other way!
