Our favourite swamp-dwelling couple return in the first teaser trailer that confirms that Zendaya will voice Shrek and Fiona’s ogre daughter (most likely Felicia). The beloved animated series debuted in 2001, leading to three direct sequels and two spinoff films featuring Puss in Boots and The Last Wish which hinted at a return to the land of Far Far Away, almost three years ago. While it’s been years since the last instalment, Shrek 5 is now in production and is set for release in December 2026, just in time for the holidays.

Now, Universal Pictures  has revealed the first teaser trailer for Shrek 5. The green ogre and his family and friends are seen gathered around the magic mirror looking for the “fairest of them all”. With the mirror replying that Shrek holds the title, followed by some funky videos of Shrek doing some sexy poses. The trailer ends with confirmation that Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers), Princess Fiona (voiced by Cameron Diaz) and Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy) are all returning for the new movie. Also shown in the trailer are the characters Pinocchio and Magic Mirror.

The sequel seemingly takes place a number of years after Shrek and Fiona welcomed triplets into their swamp home. Fergus, Farkle, and Felicia were seen in their infancy during the events of Shrek Forever After. Whilst DreamWorks Animation has not yet released any plot details for Shrek 5, it stands to reason that if the film is aging up the original characters, the story may have something to do with the passing of the torch to the new generation.

Based on this assumption, Zendaya will most likely play the role of the female triplet from the original trio, Felicia. Whether Fergus and Farkle appear in Shrek 5, and who will be their voices, is still unknown. The trailer suggests that a significant amount of time has passed in the Shrek universe since audiences last saw these characters. In reality, 16 years separate the release of the fourth and fifth films, and the aged-up designs of Shrek and Fiona indicate a similar passage of time within the story. This would place Felicia at around 16 to 18 years old, a fitting age to explore. This would bring her into the challenges of teenage life, setting up an intriguing dynamic for her ogre parents to navigate.

The fifth entry was officially confirmed last summer, with a July 2026 release date that has since been amended to the 2026 holiday season. Watch the trailer below and stay tuned to Geekhub for more details as they unfold.
