The acclaimed actor confirmed his involvement during a TODAY interview, where he was promoting his role as the Machiavellian Macrinus in Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator II.” Denzel revealed that director Ryan Coogler is crafting a specific role just for him in the upcoming “Black Panther” sequel.
A Poignant Reunion

The late Chadwick Boseman, who played the titular role in the first “Black Panther” film, famously stated at the 47th American Film Institute Life Achievement Award ceremony in 2019 that “There is no Black Panther without Denzel Washington.” It’s a touching tribute to Boseman’s legacy, with Washington stepping into a franchise where he once championed Boseman’s early career.
