2018, saw the release of the original movie “Den Of Thieves”. Written and directed by Christian Gudegast and starred Gerard Butler as LA County Sheriff Nick O’Brien, that raked in $80 million worldwide against a production budget of $30 million. Be on the lookout for the sequel Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera that is being released on January 10, 2025, through Lionsgate Films.

The first instalment follows Nick O’Brien and his team as they try to track down a crew of thieves planning to rob the Federal Reserve. Now, the second trailer for Den of Thieves 2: Pantera has landed. In the sequel, the action resumes right where the first film left off, with tenacious detective Nick “Big Nick” O’Brien (Gerard Butler) pursuing Donnie Wilson (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) across continents to Europe. In addition to Butler and Jackson returning, Meadow Williams reprises her role as Holly from the first movie.

Donnie, now entangled in a daring plot to rob the world’s biggest diamond exchange, finds himself in Big Nick’s sights once again. While Nick is adamant in his chase for Donnie, claiming that no one ever gets away from him, he pretends that he does not recognise Donnie when the authorities show footage of him. Nick’s hunt for Donnie takes a surprising turn as he seemingly joins forces with him.

All the while, Nick is adamant in his chase for Donnie, claiming that no one ever gets away from him, he pretends that he does not recognise Donnie when the authorities have footage of him. More importantly, Nick joins Donnie’s latest heist and begins working alongside him, with Donnie declaring that “the cop goes gangster” as Nick creates mayhem around Europe. The stage is set for another high-stakes showdown between cop and criminal.

The sequel takes a surprising turn as Nick and Donnie find themselves on the same side, a stark contrast to their adversarial relationship in the first film. While Nick’s expertise allows him to seamlessly blend into Donnie’s crew, his apparent transformation into a criminal feels disingenuous. Remembering how the original “Den of Thieves” ended, with Nick realising Donnie’s mastermind status, it becomes clear that Nick is playing a deeper game. This time, catching Donnie requires outsmarting him, leading Nick to adopt an undercover strategy, infiltrating the heist to sabotage it from within.
