I have heard of many different ways that Valentine’s Day is celebrated across the world, and most rank from romantic to dull but this one really got my attention. According to UPI, The Memphis Zoo in Tennessee is celebrating Valentine’s Day by giving fans the chance to send a cute red panda video to their sweethearts — or a video of an elephant pooping to their exes.
I for one think that Valentines should be a day filled with red roses, chocolates, perfume and if you want to go the extra mile possibly a fancy dinner with no mention of ex’s. After all the past should be left exactly where it should be, in the past. The folks up in Tennessee however, have a different idea. The zoo announced its “Dating or Dumping” promotion which will allow followers to exchange a donation of $10 for a video to pass along as a Valentine’s Day gift. The two options to choose from are “an adorable video of a red panda munching on a grape” or “a stinky video of an elephant poop hitting the pile.”
“Got an ex that deserves a stinkin’ surprise? This Valentine’s, let an elephant do the talking. Or maybe you’ve found the one and want to send them something adorable? Our red pandas have you covered,” the zoo said on its website. Adding to this, the Zoo said on social media that the elephant poop videos could serve multiple purposes. “Maybe it’s your annoying neighbour, overbearing mother-in-law, your ex, or that coworker who still gives you nightmares. This Valentine’s, let an elephant do the talking and name a turd after a turd,” the post said.
Whether you team up with the red panda or the elephant-sized revenge, the Memphis Zoo’s “Dating or Dumping” promotion offers a unique and undeniably memorable way to express your feelings this Valentine’s Day. And if you are interested in signing up for this promotion, remember that each video comes with a digital card and the the most popular names of daters and dumpers will be announced at the end of the campaign. Well, I guess that love, and perhaps a little bit of playful pettiness, can be found in the most unexpected places, even the animal kingdom. Maybe it’s time to embrace the quirky side of Valentine’s Day this year and choose your weapon: adorable charm or fragrant farewell.
