Get Ready for Clypso in Twisted Metal Season 2 Trailer

Buckle up! Peacock’s Twisted Metal season two trailer promises explosive action with the arrival of the Twisted Metal tournament in a fight for survival.

Ready for some carnage? Then get ready for the popular PlayStation game series “Twisted Metal”. Season 2 of the series is making a comeback as a live-action adaptation TV show on Peacock.

The synopsis reads: “Following the revelations in the season one finale, John and Quiet find themselves entering the deadly TWISTED METAL tournament, a sinister demolition derby hosted by a mysterious man known as Calypso.”

The first trailer has arrived and gives the audience a quick recap of the events  about a year after season one narrated by the new Captain America , Anthony Mackie, who plays John Doe. And for those who haven’t yet watched season 1 and need an introduction to John Doe. John Doe (called a “milkman”) is a delivery driver suffering from amnesia who gets caught up in a vicious car-based battle tournament in hopes of recovering the secrets of his past. By his side are are Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz), a drifter and mistress to Doe, and the series’ most colourful character, the serial killer clown Sweet Tooth (played by Joe Seanoa and voiced by Will Arnett) that have changed his life forever.

The trailer shows the introduction of a a dangerous demolition derby tournament with the emergence of new drivers all brought in from the game. Among the new characters are Dollface (who’s teased in the press release as being Doe’s long-lost sister) and fan-favourite Mr. Grimm, a sickle-wielding biker who was a staple of the games across many iterations. Making their way in are also the likes of Vermin, Junkyard Dog, and Axel, a man whose arms are literally bound between two giant wheels.

The trailer also reveals the big bad, Calypso, who is played by Anthony Carrigan. Here, he’s seen with a full head of shoulder-length hair and a suit of an ominous black and red hue. As in the games, the shows’ version of Calypso is the organiser of the Twisted Metal tournament, wherein competitors fight to the death to have their one true wish granted.

Although the main focus of the teaser is on the tournament and the new characters, we also catch glimpses of Quiet and John Doe. Despite being separated at the end of season one, the teaser confirms their reunion before the tournament. However, it’s unclear whether their romance from the last season will continue.

The series comes from showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai) and executive producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool), and Smith shared in s a statement:

“The stakes couldn’t be higher as John Doe (Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) risk their lives to compete in a dangerous demolition derby tournament. The prize? A single wish, their greatest hearts desire, granted. The only problem is sixteen other drivers have wishes of their own. Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz lead a stellar cast, including Will Arnett & Joe Seanoa (aka Samoa Joe) as fan favorite Sweet Tooth, and Anthony Carrigan as the iconic tournament host Calypso, in a fast-paced, hysterical, thrilling season with unforgettable characters. It’s too bad not all of them will survive.”
