The rumours around the first foldable iPhone that could make its debut in 2026, have been coming in thick and fast. With the latest leaks now providing an idea of the display sizes for the upcoming handset, including both the main screen and the outer cover display.
According to a reliable source, from serial leaker Digital Chat Station (via Android Authority), the cover screen will measure 5.49 inches while the inner foldable display will measure 7.74 inches. If this proves to be correct, this would make it Apple’s smallest non-iPhone SE since the iPhone 8 Plus in 2017.
Just to give you an idea of what this could mean, the current iPhone 16 features a 6.1-inch display, the iPhone 16 Pro has a 6.3-inch display, the iPhone 16 Plus measures 6.7 inches, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display. Even the anticipated iPhone SE 4, which could launch on Wednesday, is expected to have a 6.1-inch display.
Apple’s rumoured foldable phone is expected to have a 6.8-inch cover display, which is larger than most foldable phones currently on the market. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold have 6.3-inch cover displays, while the OnePlus Open has a 6.31-inch cover display. The only foldable phone with a cover display in the same size range as the rumoured Apple phone is the Google Pixel Fold, which has a 5.8-inch cover display.
Well then, it seems like the rumoured iPhone Fold just may have a smaller inner display when compared to foldable phones in the market. Its potential 7.74-inch screen would be smaller than, for example, the 8-inch display on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. And of course if the foldable iPhone has a smaller screen it suggests that the handset is going to be more compact when it’s closed shut, making it the perfect pocket companion.
While Digital Chat Station’s leaks may have been accurate in the past, it’s crucial to be cautious. Even if the information is reliable these dimensions could simply reflect one of several prototypes Apple is experimenting with, rather than the final design. It’s too early to consider this information conclusive.
Even with the uncertainty, these leaks offer a tantalising glimpse into what could be next year’s most significant iPhone release.
