Welcome to the world of Viola Davis! This time round we see Viola playing the lead role in the action movie “G20”. Viola Davis has often portrayed powerful characters, operating behind the scenes, similar to her role as Amanda Waller. She’s played a mayor in “Law Abiding Citizen,” Director George in “Knight and Day,” Major Gwen Anderson in “Ender’s Game,” and General Nanisca in “The Woman King.” “G20” builds on her “Woman King” performance by placing her in the spotlight of the action, finally giving her the opportunity to lead the numerous adrenalin-pumping fast paced scenes.

In the trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming thriller, we see Viola Davis playing the character of Danielle Sutton, the gutsy President of the United States. While attending the G20 summit in Cape Town with her family, terrorists seize control of the summit, and President Sutton finds herself at the top of the attackers’ hit list. This forces Sutton to draw upon her diplomatic skills and military expertise to protect her family, fellow world leaders, and the global community.

The trailer shows Davis escaping the initial assault and engaging in hand-to-hand combat. The film’s logline states that President Sutton “must outsmart the enemy to protect her family, defend her country and safeguard world leaders in this action-packed thrill ride.

However, the terrorist group’s attempt to create deepfakes of 20 of the world’s most powerful leaders becomes a stumbling block, and she finds herself fighting her way through the situation with every weapon she can find as the stakes of saving her family and the world become much higher than she ever imagined.

Playing Davis’ family are Anthony Anderson as Derek Sutton and Marsai Martin as Serena Sutton. The cast also includes Ramón Rodríguez playing Agent Manny Ruiz, Elizabeth Marvel as Joanna Worth, Sabrina Impacciatore as Elena Romano, Douglas Hodge playing Oliver Everett, Antony Starr as Rutledge and Christopher Farrar as Demetrius Sutton.

Directed by Patricia Riggen, G20 features a screenplay by Caitlin Parrish, Erica Weiss, Logan Miller, and Noah Miller. With its fast-paced action, high stakes, and powerful performances, G20 is shaping up to be a must-watch for thriller fans.

It’s been a year of creative freedom, storytelling, and loving what I do—plus the occasional dramatic reaction to plot twists. No more meetings, just movies—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
