The bee has just buzzed in with sweet news! Jason Statham will be back to grace the big screen, reprising his role as Adam Clay in “The Beekeeper 2”. This time round the sequel will be directed by Indonesian action filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto (Nobody 2, The Shadow Strays) who will be taking over from David Ayer as reported by  Deadline.

In The Beekeeper, Jason Statham stars as Adam Clay, a former MI6 operative turned vigilante. When Clay’s kindhearted elderly landlady falls victim to a phishing scam, losing her life savings, he takes justice into his own hands. He hunts down those responsible, combining his lethal skills with an unshakable sense of vengeance. With Statham’s signature stoicism, hard-hitting fight sequences, and no-nonsense attitude, The Beekeeper quickly became a box office hit, delivering nonstop action and a surprisingly personal mission for its relentless protagonist.

We saw the movie end with Clay having taken down the nefarious Josh Hutcherson, earned a pass from Emmy Raver-Lampman’s Agent Verona Parker, and thoroughly infuriated Jemma Redgrave’s President Danforth. With all this in mind, the sequel will have a limitless array of intriguing directions to take.

While details for the sequel remain sketchy, one has to wonder if the sequel will offer a fresh twist or lean into familiar territory. Only time will tell. Though there is one thing you can be sure of with any Statham movie – heightened intensity with the stakes being raised higher than ever. The enemies will return even more merciless with the bees remaining a key part of the story with more mysteries to unfold. The Beekeeper 2 is sure to be packed with adrenaline-fuelled action and unexpected twists.

The movie is set to start filming this fall with a script from Kurt Wimmer, who also wrote the first film. While Ayer will no longer be in the seat calling the shots, the studio is looking to bring him back as a producer on The Beekeeper 2. Amazon MGM Studios is reportedly a top option to handle domestic distribution for the sequel after doing the same for the original.
