Almost two years have passed since Vin Diesel and his crew last appeared on the big screen in Fast X. Now fans wait in anticipation for Fast & Furious 11 – or Fast X Part 2 or Fast X 2, whichever suits your fancy. This will be the final instalment to wrap up the saga and the journey to its release has been anything but smooth. Fast X 2 will no longer be released on April 4, 2025, as was originally announced. Production is yet to begin and the instalment remains without an official release date. However, Diesel recently took to Instagram to share a significant update on the franchise’s future.

He announced that filming for Fast X 2 will finally commence this summer in Los Angeles. Though he didn’t provide a specific release date, the most likely timeframe appears to be late 2026 or even early 2027. The cast for Fast X 2 is also to be confirmed, but we can make some educated guesses based on the events of Fast X. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, Vin Diesel be back as Dominic Toretto. This despite the finale of Fast X that saw him in a tricky situation at the bottom of a dam that’s about to be blown up by Dante Reyes. There is absolutely no way that the last instalment will not have Dom or his son Brian (Leo Abelo Perry).

The fates of Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel) and Han (Sung Kang) hang in the balance after new Agency leader Aimes (Alan Ritchson) – who was working all along with Dante – fired a rocket at their plane, causing it to crash. Although there might be injuries and a fatality, I’m sure most of them will be back in the next movie. Michelle Rodriguez and Charlize Theron are set to return as Letty and Cipher, respectively, following the final scene where they were rescued in Antarctica by Gisele (Gal Gadot). Gisele who, against all odds, has somehow returned from the dead.

Jason Statham will return as Deckard Shaw, assuming he manages to save his mother Queenie (Helen Mirren) from Dante’s henchmen. He may also have a reunion with Hobbs after Dwayne Johnson’s surprise return in the credit scene. The major casualty of Fast X was John Cena’s Jakob Toretto who sacrifices himself to help Dom save his son. Jakob’s car blew up with him in it, but we didn’t technically see a body, so there is a pretty good chance that he may return just like Gisele did.

Other cast members that we could potentially see are Jordana Brewster’s Mia and Daniela Melchior alongside Jason Momoa’s Dante and Alan Ritchson’s Aimes, Brie Larson’s Tess should also be another Fast X newcomer to return in the next movie. Even though we know it’s coming, Fast & Furious 11 hasn’t started filming, so there’s no footage to show you yet. With the likely release delay, we won’t see anything until late 2025.
