The Accountant 2: Ben Affleck Returns In A Thrilling Sequel

Eight years after the release of the original film “The Accountant”, Gavin O’Connor revisits the story of Christian Wolff, an autistic accountant who balances the books for some of the world’s most sinister criminals. We now finally have the sequel with a look very different to the original.

The trailer leads with Raymond King (J.K. Simmons), who spent the first movie attempting to track down Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck), being assassinated. His assistant, Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), is bewildered by the message he left behind, scrawled out on his arm “Find the Accountant.” While Marybeth was isolated from the main story in the first film, she is now brought to the forefront to find Chris and solve the murder of her former boss.

We see Marybeth recruiting Christian for the mission to find the culprit behind Raymond’s murder, but this proves to be no simple task. With something far more sinister lurking beneath the surface, Christian seeks help from his estranged brother Brax (Jon Bernthal). Marybeth is exposed To Christians’ less-than-legal methods of finding the truth leaving her understandably spooked.  The dynamic between Christian, Brax and Marybeth comes across as comically dangerous.

The sequel truly comes to life with the entrance of Bernthal’s Brax. His memorable entrance of stripping down to his underwear while shouting at his reflection, immediately signals a deep dive into his character than we did in the first film. We see Bernthal and Affleck reuniting with a chemistry that is undeniable.

Their brotherly bond with equal parts love and playful bickering is at the heart of the film. Though both characters have engaged in morally questionable actions, their shared moments bring a surprising depth to them. Whether it’s Brax urging Christian to charm a waitress at a cowboy saloon or their ongoing debate about being a dog person versus a cat person, these interactions add a layer of authenticity. In most films, such moments might feel out of place, but The Accountant 2 seamlessly weaves them into the action and plot twists, making them feel right at home.

The action scenes in The Accountant 2 is exhilarating to watch, with everything we saw in the previous film and more. The Accountant 2 is an evenly balanced  action drama that was never expected.

After 28 years in corporate life, I swapped spreadsheets for screenplays and now write movie reviews and celebrity articles for Geekhub. It’s been a year of creative freedom, storytelling, and loving what I do—plus the occasional dramatic reaction to plot twists. No more meetings, just movies—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
