Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are back in the sequel to the 2018 dark comedy thriller Another Simple Favour. Directed by Paul Feig, the film takes place five years after the events of the first movie, where Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) had Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) sent to prison for her deadly schemes. But Emily’s exit from Stephanie’s life was far from permanent. Now a true crime author, Stephanie has turned their twisted tale into a bestselling memoir—only to cross paths with the enigmatic Emily once again during her book tour.
That’s right, Emily’s out of prison on appeal, for the double murder of her father and twin sister, thanks to her rich Italian fiancé. It seems that Emily she has one more favour to ask of Stephanie: Will she be her maid of honour at her destination wedding in Capri? The fashionista insists she is not looking for revenge but you have to wonder what she has up her sleeve. The trailer teases a blend of glamour and danger, with glimpses of murder, betrayal.
The cast also sees the return of Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho and Kelly McCormack, all reprising their roles from the original movie. Based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Darcey Bell, which told the story of a widowed single mother named Stephanie, played by Kendrick. The original film was a theatrical success for Lionsgate, grossing $97.6 million worldwide against a $20 million production budget. But the film was evidently an even stronger release on streaming: it ranked as the most-watched film on Netflix as the sequel was beginning production.
This sequel sees Amazon Studios come on board to co-produce, with a release plan that will see the film debut directly on the Prime Video streamer.
