Immortality, ancient grudges, and Charlize Theron (Andy) wielding an axe like she’s born for the battle of a lifetime. Yes, that’s right,  prepare for the sequel to 2020’s hit fantasy-action epic “The Old Guard”. Five years on from the original, The trailer for The Old Guard 2 has landed on the Netflix platform and the gang is back, bloodier and broodier than ever.

This time round, they’re facing off against someone even older and deadlier than themselves. Watch Uma Thurman (Discord) as she steps in like a vengeance-fueled goddess of war. Get your first glimpse at Thurman picking up the katana again to go head-to-head with Theron in the new official trailer below.

The stakes are even higher now that Andy is mortal and can die, but that certainly won’t keep her out of the action. She will continue to fight against all odds to protect humanity from all sorts of danger. When her group is threatened by Thurman’s villain, Andy enlists the help of a new character Tuah (Henry Golding), who seems to be acquainted with the new enemy. “She is the first of the Immortals,” he tells Andy. “She knows your histories, your relationships…”

Meanwhile, Andy is also being hounded by Quynh (Veronica Ngô), with the trailer seeing the Immortal being fished out of the water and released from the iron maiden she was trapped in. Now roaming free, Quynh is determined to find Andy, hellbent on vengeance after centuries of watery torment.

The trailer is a relentless rush of combat, anguished cries, and tantalising plot reveals. It throws us headfirst into explosive car chases, daring stunts, and fierce shootouts. Amid the chaos, we get glimpses of rich backstory and bold villain monologues that crank the tension sky-high.

The movie previously described as containing “insane action” by Theron, is directed by Victoria Mahoney, who replaces The Old Guard director Gina Prince-Bythewood. The cast remains stacked, with Luca Marinelli, Marwan Kenzari, KiKi Layne, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Matthias Schoenaerts all reprising their roles from the first film. If the trailer is any indication, the film promises to deliver everything fans loved about the original, and then some. Whether you’re here for the sword fights, the lore, or just to see Charlize Theron and Uma Thurman throw down like cinematic titans, it is definitely worth the watch.
