The newly released trailer for James Gunn’s eagerly awaited Superman reveals fresh glimpses of David Corenswet’s Man of Steel in action, along with his allies and the world he’s set to protect. Set to premiere on July 11, 2025, this film marks the beginning of the DC Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

David Corenswet steps into the iconic role of Clark Kent/Superman, portraying a character who grapples with his dual identity as both an alien from Krypton and a human raised in Smallville. The trailer showcases Superman’s internal struggle to reconcile facets of his identity while facing skepticism from a world that questions his place among them. This nuanced portrayal aims to present a more relatable and emotionally complex Superman, moving away from the traditionally stoic depictions of the past.

A key detail in the new official Superman trailer hints at a fresh take on Green Lantern mythology within the DCU. James Gunn’s Superman won’t just debut a reimagined Man of Steel. It will also mark the first live-action, big-screen appearances of several iconic DC characters. Amongst the characters are   Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, Ultraman, the Engineer, and Green Lantern’s Guy Gardner. Unlike many interconnected franchises that build their worlds from the ground up, the DCU is launching with a richly populated universe where countless heroes and villains have already been active for years.

The trailer showcases a more vibrant and hopeful style as opposed to the darker tones of previous Superman films. There is a good balance between the action-packed sequences and moments of introspection and levity. James Gunn’s direction infuses the film with his signature style, balancing action-packed sequences with moments of introspection and levity. Notably, the inclusion of Krypto the Superdog adds a touch of warmth and nostalgia, resonating with long-time fans.

The trailer has sparked discussions among fans and critics alike. However,  many have praised the fresh take on the character and the film’s ambitious scope. Some have expressed concerns over the tonal direction and visual choices, but the general consensus leans towards optimism, with audiences eager to see how this new chapter unfolds.

In summary, the Superman (2025) trailer sets the stage for a film that seeks to redefine the iconic hero for a new generation, blending traditional elements with contemporary storytelling to explore the complexities of identity, morality, and heroism.
