Off the Grid: Espionage, Betrayal, And Bare-Knuckle Survival

If you thought going “off the grid” just meant deleting Instagram or Facebook for the weekend, Josh Duhamel is here to correct you with a combat knife and a thousand-yard stare. This trailer throws you in a snowstorm, and whispers, “Run.” This is espionage, betrayal, and bare-knuckle survival, all wrapped in one frosty, high-octane package.

Lionsgate has released the official trailer for Off the Grid. A high-stakes action thriller from stuntman-turned-director Johnny Martin. Guy (Josh Duhamel) takes the lead as a brilliant scientist responsible for the creation of a game-changing piece of technology. A compact generator with the power to revolutionise the world. But when his shady employers see dollar signs and potential destruction, he disappears into the wilderness, taking his research with him, to keep it out of their hands.

Now, after years of living off the grid in Europe, he’s been discovered. Their response? Send in the killers. His sinister ex-employers (Peter Stormare and Greg Kinnear) send hired killers to his new home to destroy everything he’s built. Their mistake? Underestimating a man who’s not just a genius, but a fighter with nothing left to lose. Pretty soon, the hunters become the hunted, as Guy uses everything at his disposal to lure his attackers into a deadly trap.

From the very first scene we see Guy, bloodied and breathless, sprinting through snow-covered terrain. The trailer plunges us into a covert mission gone wrong, a betrayal from within, and now our protagonist is being hunted by the very agency that sent him in. Think: satellite phones, encrypted messages, and the terrifying hum of drones overhead. Its paranoia meets primal instinct.

Duhamel, often seen in more charming or lighter roles, leans hard into the grit here. With a beard that screams “I haven’t slept in weeks” and eyes that never stop scanning the tree-line, he brings a rugged authenticity with him. There are shades of Survivor, The Fugitive, and even a little First Blood, especially when he starts setting traps for his pursuers in a sequence that looks as brutal as it is brilliant.

But it’s not just about running and surviving. A few key moments hint at a deeper emotional core. Flashbacks to a family left behind, a cryptic voiceover about “getting out clean,” and the question of who Guy really was before everything fell apart. The trailer is a tight, pulse-pounding tease of a film that looks to blend survivalist grit with espionage thrills. If the movie delivers even half the intensity promised in these two minutes, it’s going to be one hell of a ride.
