Apple TV+ has just released the trailer for, The Lost Bus. It is a pulse-hammering teaser that smoulders. In just over a minute, we’re thrust into the smoke-thick panic of a real-life inferno, where one man and a single school bus stand between 23 children and the deadliest wildfire in the history of California. Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera headline this survival drama and with Paul Greengrass at the helm, you can bet the ground beneath your feet won’t stop shaking.

The teaser immediately envelops you in apocalyptic heat—ash-choked skies, flickering embers, tense handheld shots. The Lost Bus recounts the harrowing true story behind the 2018 Camp Fire. The deadliest and most destructive wildfire in California’s history, which reduced the town of Paradise to ash. At its heart lies one extraordinary incident when a school bus, packed with students and staff, becomes surrounded by a wall of flame. Cut off from escape and swallowed by chaos, their only hope is to brave the inferno together, turning an ordinary ride home into a fight for survival.

Matthew McConaughey steps into the role of Kevin McKay, the real-life bus driver whose quick thinking and quiet heroism helped steer a group of children through the heart of a raging wildfire. The teaser captures the suffocating tension inside the bus, the looming terror of the flames, and the raw fight to stay alive. Through these moments, it weaves powerful themes of resilience, solidarity, and the strength of the human spirit when faced with unimaginable odds. The film draws its inspiration from Lizzie Johnson’s acclaimed book, Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paul Greengrass The Lost Bus also stars Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, Danny McCarthy and Spencer Watson. While no exact release date has been announced, “The Lost Bus” will be released in selected theatres and stream on Apple TV+ this fall.

    Geek Verdict:

The Lost Bus teaser is an invitation into a harrowing yet hopeful story, where ordinary people become extraordinary under fire. It wisely holds back plot reveals, instead relying on mood, pace, and performance to grip you.

Looking forward to: fuller trailers with more context. But for now, this teaser is shockingly effective, scarce and stirring, setting the pulse racing without revealing the answers.
