Together: A Love Story That Turns Monstrous

What if the person you loved most began to merge with you, and I mean this in the literal sense? From the eerie corners of psychological horror and emotional intimacy comes Together, a disturbing new vision arriving in theatres on July 30. Starring real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie playing Tim and Millie. This body-horror romance unwinds like a love letter dipped in acid. It is raw, haunting, and deeply unsettling. The trailer teases a relationship pushed past its limits, where passion turns parasitic and togetherness becomes terrifyingly literal.

The movie centres around a couple who relocate to the countryside, after Millie gets a job teaching at a local elementary school. Following a hike in which they stumble upon a cave with a mysterious water source, this sets off a supernatural incident, where they find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other.

The trailer opens by showing the leads sleeping in separate bedrooms, with Tim saying “I love you” and his wife, Mille, responding with “okay.” The trailer cuts to a scene of Millie explaining that they have not been in their usual groove and might be “complacent. What starts with romantic bliss splinters quickly into dripping kisses, flesh pulling eerily together, and sticky lips that signify a terrifying intimacy that becomes grotesquely physical.

Though the trailer brims with jump scares and unsettling body horror, Brie and Franco’s effortless comedic chemistry brings a surprising levity. At the same time, their emotional bond shines through, guiding their characters across a spectrum of love, dependency, and desire. The result is a journey that’s both bizarrely hopeful and unexpectedly endearing.

Together is written and directed by Michael Shanks, who also appears in the movie. The supporting cast includes Damon Herriman, Karl Richmond, Jack Kenny, and Francesca Waters.

    Geek Verdict:

The trailer masterfully sets a tone that is, part romance, part psychological thriller, and part body horror, all while withholding its most gruesome secrets.

With a couple at its emotional core and a supernatural force physically binding them as they question who they are separately, Together promises a haunting exploration of intimacy’s darker side.
