Disney+ has introduced a new feature that’s making history and thrilling diehard Marvel fans. The platform has officially launched a dedicated Marvel channel within its Streams playlist, amazing stuff right here!
For over five years, Disney+ has served as a hub for Marvel content, including legacy titles that predate Disney’s acquisition of the franchise. Fans have long hoped for a Marvel-only viewing experience, and now that dream has come to life with the arrival of “Marvel Animated Rewind.”
Exclusively available to Disney+ Premium subscribers, this channel delivers non-stop streaming of classic animated Marvel shows in a 24/7 livestream format, much like traditional TV. It quietly rolled out around May 27 or 28, replacing the former Star Wars-themed stream, “In a Galaxy Far, Far Away.”
This move is a significant milestone for both Marvel and Disney+. Marvel Animated Rewind is the first Streams channel entirely dedicated to Marvel content. Previously, select Marvel shows were grouped under Disney+’s now-defunct “Hits & Heroes” channel, and only Spidey and His Amazing Friends continued airing under the “Playtime”stream after that.
The new Marvel channel features 16 animated series spanning decades, from vintage gems of the 1970s to titles released in the 2010s:
- Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes
- The Avengers: United They Stand
- Fantastic Four (1994)
- Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes
- The Incredible Hulk (1996)
- Iron Man: The Animated Series (1994)
- Iron Man: Armoured Adventures
- Silver Surfer
- Spider-Man (1981)
- Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994)
- Spider-Man: Unlimited
- Spider-Woman
- Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends
- Wolverine and the X-Men
- X-Men: The Animated Series (1992)
- X-Men: Evolution
While the lineup is extensive, newer titles like X-Men ‘97 and What If…? are notably absent, likely because they’re still being promoted as on-demand titles rather than streamable loops.
Why Isn’t the MCU on Disney+ Streams?
Many fans may wonder why live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) content isn’t featured in the Streams lineup. The reason might come down to residual payments. If the Streams feature mirrors traditional TV broadcasts, which pay royalties each time a show airs, Disney might avoid including high-profile MCU content to minimise additional costs, especially for titles already popular on-demand.
Instead, the Streams strategy appears focused on boosting visibility for lesser-watched titles, like Spider-Man (1981), which likely doesn’t generate the same traction as MCU hits like Doctor Strange. Featuring them in a passive, live-streaming format helps rediscover content that may otherwise remain buried in the catalog.
With Marvel Animated Rewind, Disney+ not only honours Marvel’s animated legacy but also unlocks a nostalgic, continuous viewing experience tailor-made for devoted fans.
