Netflix has officially announced that People We Meet on Vacation, the highly anticipated adaptation of Emily Henry’s New York Times bestseller, will debut on January 9, 2026. The streaming platform dropped a teaser on July 1 showing voiceovers from lead characters Poppy and Alex, set against sun‑drenched beach scenery that perfectly ties into the novel’s central travel-themed romance.

People We Meet on Vacation centres on Alex, a creature of habit, and Poppy, a spontaneous, free-spirited travel writer—two unlikely best friends who live far apart but reunite every summer for a week-long vacation. If you’re drawn to the emotional charm and witty tension of Nora Ephron’s When Harry Met Sally, this story is sure to hit the same sweet spot.

But after a falling out two years ago during a tense moment neither of them can quite forget, their annual tradition came to a halt. Hoping to mend what was broken, Poppy persuades Alex to join her for one last trip. As they navigate their present-day awkwardness in Palm Springs, flashbacks to their past getaways and their very first encounter at the University of Chicago, the deep layers of their bond is revealed. Could this final vacation be the turning point that changes everything?

Tom Blyth, best known for portraying Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, steps into the role of Alex Nielsen, the charming, introspective high school teacher. Emily Bader, known for My Lady Jane, plays Poppy, the free-spirited travel writer whose annual vacations with Alex are the heart of the story. The screenplay adaptation comes from Yulin Kuang, with Brett Haley directing and Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, and Isaac Klausner on production. The broader ensemble includes Jameela Jamil, Molly Shannon, Alan Ruck, Sarah Catherine Hook, Lucien Laviscount, and Miles Heizer.

Netflix’s People We Meet on Vacation promises a heartfelt, sun-soaked romantic comedy adapted from a cherished bestseller. Anchored by a standout cast led by Tom Blyth and Emily Bader and helmed by a skilled creative team, this release is shaping up to be a highlight of early 2026 streaming.

After 28 years in corporate life, I swapped spreadsheets for screenplays and now write movie reviews and celebrity articles for Geekhub. It’s been a year of creative freedom, storytelling, and loving what I do—plus the occasional dramatic reaction to plot twists. No more meetings, just movies—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
