DCU Reboot: New Batman and Wonder Woman Movies Moving Forward

Where gods walk among mortals and legacy is forged through sacrifice and shadow, the DC Universe is rising from the ashes of the old. Under the visionary leadership of James Gunn and Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav, a new age dawns. One where the Dark Knight trains his son in a city of crime, and an Amazon warrior reclaims her mythic place in a fractured world. The future isn’t just coming… it’s being written, one cape, one crown, one bold chapter at a time. This is the next era of Batman. The rebirth of Wonder Woman. And the first glimpse into the gods and monsters who will define the DCU.

Since James Gunn and Peter Safran took the helm of DC Studios (appointed by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav in November 2022), they’ve realigned the DC slate as part of a strategic brand reboot, dubbed DCU: Gods & Monsters. Their new roadmap kicked off with Gunn’s upcoming Superman (July 11, 2025), with plans to expand into multifaceted storylines led by key heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman.

Gunn reaffirmed to Screen Rant that The Brave and the Bold, inspired by Grant Morrison’s Batman and Son, is moving forward as an essential live‑action Batman chapter within the DCU and will be completely separate from Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe. The focus will be on  Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne (Robin), deepening the father–son dynamic.

Wait… is this coming sooner than expected? According to some insider hints, both the Batman and Wonder Woman projects are progressing faster than most realised.

In a recent exclusive with Entertainment Weekly , Gunn enthusiastically revealed: “We’re working on Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman’s being written right now”. This signals a full restart, separate from both the shelved Gal Gadot Wonder Woman 3 and the HBO Max Paradise Lost series set on Themyscira.

The script is in active development, though casting and further creative assembly are still pending. Diana Prince remains a foundational hero in the evolving DCU, alongside Batman, Superman, and Supergirl.

These hero-centric films form a core foundation and Gunn has cited his intent to build via one animated and two live-action features per year, followed by eventual team-ups like a new Justice League. Batman: The Brave and the Bold and the new Wonder Woman film are integral to stage two of this bold character revivals.

James Gunn and David Zaslav are accelerating two major pillars in the new DC Universe: a Batman film exploring the iconic father–son legacy, and a fully rebooted Wonder Woman standalone. The creative efforts are well underway, with scripts in development and serious momentum behind the scenes, setting the stage for the next wave of DC storytelling.

After 28 years in corporate life, I swapped spreadsheets for screenplays and now write movie reviews and celebrity articles for Geekhub. It’s been a year of creative freedom, storytelling, and loving what I do—plus the occasional dramatic reaction to plot twists. No more meetings, just movies—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
