Chris Rock: First A24 Movie Is Shaping Up To Be One Of The Buzziest Indie Sets Of The Year

In a dazzling twist for cinephiles, Chris Rock is swapping the stand‑up stage for the director’s chair and he’s doing it with A24 backing. His first feature with the indie powerhouse has just locked in a trio of major names (plus a stellar newcomer) that promise fireworks. In the lead: Rosalind Eleazar, squarely in the spotlight as Misty Green. Joining her, Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, and Anna Kendrick round out the cast. It’s shaping up to be one of the buzziest indie sets of the year.

The film which is currently untitled, though Misty Green is trending. It centres on a once‑promising actress whose career has flatlined. That is, until someone from her past offers her a path back into the spotlight. Rock is both writer and director here, marking his first non‑standup project since Top Five (2014).

Rosalind Eleazar (best known for Slow Horses) takes the lead as Misty Green, a complex, comeback‑hungry performer. Adam Driver, fresh off Megalopolis and Ferrari, joins the ensemble. Daniel Kaluuya, whose recent high‑profile work includes Judas and the Black Messiah and voice roles in Spider‑Man: Across the Spider‑Verse, also boards the project. Anna Kendrick, remembered for Another Simple Favour, completes the main quartet. Presently, their characters remain tightly under wraps. Filming is already underway in Los Angeles, signalling this is more than casting speculation—it’s full steam ahead.

This feels like a lightning‑bolt moment for all involved:

    • For Eleazar, who transitions from breakouts in Slow Horses to leading Rock’s high‑profile indie, this is a bold next chapter.
    • For Chris Rock, whose return to narrative features in a major way signals creative evolution.
    • And for A24, which continues to curate daring voices, this ensemble suggests a tone both intimate and powerful.

Imagine the energy: Rock’s sharp comedic instincts directed at a dramatic, character‑driven story. Talent of this caliber, leaning into the theme of reinvention… I’m already itching for a trailer reveal.

Keep an eye out: we’re still awaiting title confirmation, full character breakdowns, and any new additions to the cast. But one thing’s certain: this is one of the year’s most anticipated indie films—rich with potential and artistic ambition.

After 28 years in corporate life, I swapped spreadsheets for screenplays and now write movie reviews and celebrity articles for Geekhub. It’s been a year of creative freedom, storytelling, and loving what I do—plus the occasional dramatic reaction to plot twists. No more meetings, just movies—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
