Mutiny: Jason Statham Thriller Gets New Release Date

Jason Statham fans just got a dose of disappointment. The action star’s upcoming thriller Mutiny has been pushed back, meaning audiences will have to wait a little longer to see him unleash his signature brand of high-octane heroics.

In Mutiny, Statham not only headlines but also produces, teaming up with Jean-François Richet, the director of 2023’s hit Plane starring Gerard Butler. The cast also features Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders, Malignant), Jason Wong (Wrath of Man, The Gentlemen), Roland Møller, Arnas Fedaravičius, and Adrian Lester.

Originally slated for a January 9, 2026 release, Lionsgate has now shifted Mutiny to summer 2026 per movie web. The January slot will instead be filled by Butler’s Greenland: Migration. While the delay is unfortunate, a prime summer release suggests strong confidence in Statham’s latest outing.

    The official synopsis reads:

“In Mutiny, after his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed is set up to take the fall for the crime—leaving him on the run as he works to uncover an international conspiracy.”

The film was written by Plane’s J.P. Davis and Lindsay Michel. Lionsgate’s Lauren Bixby praised the collaboration, saying, “Jason Statham is one of the most kinetic action stars in the world, and we look forward to teaming him up with Jean-François and the MadRiver team who we previously worked with on Plane. We can’t wait to see that creative energy once again as we bring Mutiny to life.”

While Mutiny is on hold until next summer, Statham recently returned to the big screen in A Working Man, now available to stream. Directed by The Beekeeper’s David Ayer with a script by Statham’s Expendables co-star Sylvester Stallone, the film stars David Harbour (Stranger Things), Michael Peña (End of Watch), Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Arianna Rivas (The Black Phone 2), Noemi Gonzalez (Selena: The Series), and Emmett J. Scanlan (Peaky Blinders, Kin). Despite a mixed critical reception (47% on Rotten Tomatoes), it earned audience approval (87% on the Popcornmeter) and performed solidly at the box office.

The action doesn’t stop there. Statham is confirmed to reunite with The Night Comes for Us director Timo Tjahjanto for The Beekeeper 2. He’ll also partner with Ric Roman Waugh (Angel Has Fallen) for an untitled action project about a recluse living on a remote Scottish island who rescues a girl, setting off a dangerous chain of events that forces him to confront his turbulent past.
