In a magical announcement timed with the annual “Back to Hogwarts” fan celebration on September 1, 2025, Warner Bros. confirmed that British actor Warwick Davis will reprise his role as Professor Filius Flitwick in the highly anticipated HBO adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter series per Variety. Having originally portrayed both Flitwick and the goblin Griphook across all eight films, Davis’s return marks him as the first confirmed star from the original cinematic universe to be officially brought into the new television series.

The series also unveiled several new student cast members set to take on iconic supporting roles:

    • Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas
    • Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe
    • William Nash as Gregory Goyle

These characters, longtime sidekicks of Draco Malfoy, are now stepping into the limelight, enriching the on-screen world of Hogwarts from a fresh perspective.

The world of Hogwarts grows deeper with the introduction of several new faculty members:

    • Sirine Saba as Professor Pomona Sprout (Herbology teacher)
    • Richard Durden as Professor Cuthbert Binns (History of Magic)
    • Bríd Brennan as Madam Poppy Pomfrey (School nurse)
    • Leigh Gill as Griphook at Gringotts, taking over the goblin role from Davis in the films.

These castings enrich the Hogwarts environment with familiar faces, and a few new portrayals, broadening the tapestry of magical academia.

This ambitious series, developed for HBO (and HBO Max), is helmed by showrunner Francesca Gardiner and features directing and executive producing from Mark Mylod, along with contributions from J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman. Filming began in July 2025 at Leavesden Studios in the United Kingdom. The first season, which is expected to span eight episodes, will chronicle Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, with each subsequent season likely adapting a following novel. The series is slated to premiere in early 2027 on HBO in the U.S., and via HBO Max in global markets including Germany, Italy, and the UK.

It will be amazing to watch Nostalgia Meet Fresh Energy with Warwick Davis’s return as Flitwick which bridges past and present, while new cast members deepen the world’s scope. From Herbology to History of Magic, expanded roles like Professor Binns and Madam Pomfrey promise more immersive storytelling. And with a decade-spanning vision and dedication to book-by-book adaptation, the series aims to faithfully bring Rowling’s universe to life, warts and all.

With production under way and a full cast revealed, fans around the world are bracing for what promises to be a richly nostalgic yet boldly new chapter in the Harry Potter legacy.
