The global launch of “The world’s thinnest and most durable foldable phone, the HONOR Magic V3, and it looks like they’re throwing down the gauntlet to Samsung for foldable phone supremacy!

    Honor surpasses Samsung in Europe

Now I love a bit of healthy competition, especially when it shakes things up in the tech world and makes the big players sweat a bit. Samsung’s been undoubtedly ruling the roost for a while now, but Honor has been catching up faster than a Springbok on match day. In fact since the launch of the Magic V2 their growth in the foldable smartphone space has been so impressive, that according to a recent report by counterpoint research HONOR has surpassed Samsung to become the top foldable smartphone brand in Europe.

It is clear that HONOR is on a mission, not just to capture market share, but also the hearts and minds of consumers. In a bold and hilarious move, HONOR has taken a massive Jab at Samsung by issuing an apology note to Samsung owners, in the form of a microscopic 166 word apology engraved into the Hinge of the Magic V3,by renowned British micro-artist, Graham Short. Graham painstakingly etched the statement into the phone using diamond-tipped pins, a process that took 90 hours. The microscopic text, measuring only 100 microns tall (about the size of a human hair).

This has to be one of the most ballsy and insincere apologies ever, to highlight the disappointment of Samsung users opting for a heftier device, but it shows Honor means business and I’m all for it!

The full apology from Honor reads:

“Dear Samsung Galaxy Z Fold owners, we’re sorry. We know you were excited to buy a phone that folds in half and fits in your pocket, awkwardly. You were promised the future, a technical marvel, a world of boundless multitasking and performance.

And now, you’re probably looking at the new HONOR Magic V3 and feeling a little… betrayed. Size matters, and we feel your pain. Like being tipped for a gold medal and then coming last in the race, the knowledge that a thinner, lighter, and more durable foldable exists is enough to make anyone question their choices.

We get it. You were an early adopter, a pioneer bravely venturing into the uncharted territory of foldable screens with questionable durability. You deserve better. In fact, you deserve a gold medal. In all seriousness, we at HONOR are committed to pushing the boundaries of technology and bringing you the best possible foldable experience. We’re just saying… it’s okay to feel let down. We’d feel the same way.”

Magic V3 heading to South African Shores?

There has been no confirmation from Honor on a local release by the time of publication, however if the Magic V2 that did grace our shores is anything to go by, we can certainly hope for another “Magic Spectacle”

Tune in to the live stream of the Global launch at IFA Berlin today, 2pm South African time on the embedded twitter link in this article.
