So here’s the thing, I’ve always had a keen eye for great technology that offers even greater value for money, so when I was given the opportunity to get my hands on the TCL 75 C655 QLED Pro smart TV, I was excited to see how it stacks up to this test. And let me tell you, it exceeded my expectations in every way.

Now if you’ve never heard of TCL before, best you listen up before you make that TV purchase. TCL has been a major player in the electronics world since 1981 and is known for delivering quality tech without breaking the bank. In fact, TCL is the 2nd largest TV brand globally in terms of shipments just behind Samsung. Yes you read that right, they sell more TV’s than LG, Hisense and Sony. With their entry into the South African market, with top-notch products at highly competitive prices, things are about to get really interesting. Here’s my quick take after spending a few weeks with the TCL 75 C655 QLED Pro.

    Unboxing and Design

Straight out of the box, the TCL C655 Pro impresses with its sleek, modern design. The ultra-slim profile and minimalist bezel make it a stylish addition to any living space. In a market where the main focus is picture quality, TCL has delivered a TV that doesn’t just perform well but also looks great. I’ve had Samsung and LG TVs before, and while they offer impressive designs, the TCL’s slim profile and clean lines feel just as premium without the hefty price tag. Whether mounted on the wall or resting on its stand, it adds a touch of elegance to the living room. The Premium QLED silver badge on the side subtly highlights its high-end status.

    Display Quality: A Visual Masterpiece

The TCL C655 Pro boasts QLED Pro technology, offering a significant boost in color accuracy and brightness. Its Quantum Dot technology includes an upgraded version called Quaternary Quantum Crystal PRO. This advanced material uses four elements instead of two, resulting in:

    • Brilliant Colors: The TV displays up to 95% of the color gamut, providing vibrant and true-to-life color reproduction.
    • Increased Brightness: The screen is 25% brighter, making it perfect for viewing in well-lit rooms.
    • Longer Lifespan: With a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours, you can count on this TV to deliver excellent performance for years to come.

While other brands like Samsung and LG also offer impressive display technologies, TCL’s QLED Pro delivers comparable color performance at a more budget-friendly price. Samsung’s QLEDs are great but can be pricey, and LG’s OLEDs, though outstanding in contrast, are often expensive and less ideal for bright environments.

    T-SCREEN PRO Technology

Another standout feature is TCL’s T-SCREEN PRO. This technology arranges liquid crystal molecules in a butterfly-wing pattern at 89°, which enhances contrast ratios by five times and provides a 178° ultra-wide viewing angle. The result is a stunningly clear and detailed picture that minimizes glare and halo effects. The screen’s durability is also impressive, with a lifespan 1.5 times longer than ordinary screens.

    Sound Quality: A Cinematic Experience

The audio experience on the TCL C655 Pro is elevated by the Onkyo 2.1 Hi-Fi sound system. Known for high-end audio solutions, Onkyo’s 50W system ensures rich, immersive sound. With Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual certification, the sound quality is cinematic, perfect for home theaters, offering an audio effect that enhances the viewing experience. This is one of the features of the C655 that you absolutely have to experience to really understand how awesome it is. I actually don’t use my soundbar anymore.

    Gaming and Performance

Gamers will appreciate the TCL C655 Pro’s 120Hz Game Accelerator, which provides smoother gameplay compared to the standard 60Hz refresh rate. Now I’m no Pro gamer, but the regular weekend FIFA sessions with the mates have definitely been levelled up with this beast. The C655 Pro ensures ultra-low latency and smooth performance, whether you’re watching movies or playing games. The AIPQ Processor, dynamically adjusts picture quality with six AI adjustments—AI-Colour, AI-Contrast, AI-Clarity, AI-Motion, AI-HDR, and AI-Scene—to optimize your viewing experience in real-time. The result is just spectacular.

    Eye Care Features

TCL’s dedication to eye health is evident with the C655 Pro’s TÜV Low Blue Light and TÜV Flicker Free certifications, as well as MEMC technology to reduce eye strain. These features make for a more comfortable viewing experience, especially during extended use.

    Value for Money

The TCL C655 Pro offers excellent value for money, combining high-end features like QLED Pro technology and advanced sound systems at a price that often undercuts competitors like Samsung and LG. While other brands offer similar tech, TCL’s balance of quality and affordability makes the C655 Pro a standout choice.
