Vivo Y19s – A budget device thats easy on the eyes and your pocket

Sometimes, the most exciting developments aren’t the flashy flagships, but devices that make solid tech more accessible. Just this week, I had a rant about this very topic and it seems like Vivo has read my mind or perhaps my social feeds.

Following the launch of their premium X200 Pro, Vivo has shifted gears, quietly unveiling the Y19s, a budget-friendly contender with an attractive design and an even more attractive price point.

Vivo’s GM of SA, Tony Shi, expressed the company’s commitment to blending style, innovation, and affordability, highlighting the Y19s as a prime example of this philosophy.

“We’re excited to unveil another captivating product in the rapidly evolving smartphone market. vivo has always been an advocate for style and innovation, continuously pushing the boundaries to make top-tier performance accessible and affordable. Vivo Y19s is an exemplary embodiment of this philosophy, and we’re eager to see consumers embrace this device.” said Shi.

The Vivo Y19s is designed to be both stylish and functional. Available in Pearl Silver and Diamond Black, the smartphone features a 6.68-inch LCD ‘Dotch’ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, providing smooth visuals for everyday use. Priced at R3,499, the device is positioned to attract users looking for a cost-effective, practical smartphone solution.

One of the standout features of the Y19s is its 5,150mAh battery, a specification that surpasses many flagship models in endurance. This extended battery life ensures users can go longer between charges, making it a reliable companion for daily tasks. The Y19s also sports SGS Certified, military grade drop resistance, however we will wait to test out these claims for ourselves before issuing a verdict on durability. The recently released Honor X9c is an absolute monster in this department, albeit at almost 3 times the price.

On the chipset side, performance enthusiasts might need to temper their expectations – The Y19s is powered by the 12nm Unisoc Tiger T612 chipset, paired with 4GB RAM.

While the processor may not be the most renowned in the market, it’s more than sufficient for everyday use. High-end gaming and resource-heavy tasks may pose a challenge, but at this price point, that’s an expected trade-off.

For photography enthusiasts, the Y19s sports a 50MP main rear camera, complemented by a 5MP front-facing sensor, which should offer solid performance for capturing moments on the go.

Vivo has announced that the Y19s will be available at an official retail price of R3,499 and on contract through Vodacom stores.
