    TCL C6K: The Value King of Smart TVs

    If you’re in the market for a new smart TV and you’re tired of feeling like you need a second bond to afford one, TCL might just have your back. The new TCL C6K range was launched in South Africa last week and is bringing some serious bang for your buck—especially if you’re into high refresh rates and bold, punchy visuals.

    Why the TCL C6K is My Friday Tech Pick

    Every week, I dive into the gadgets and gizmos that standout and offers incredible value, and this week, it’s the TCL C6K. Let’s talk about why.

    The Specs That Matter

    First off, the C6K series is packing a 144Hz native refresh rate across the range. Yes, 144Hz on a freaking TV! Most other TVs in this price bracket are capping out at around 50-60Hz, which makes the C6K an absolute steal if you’re into gaming or just hate that choppy motion blur.

    In terms of picture quality, TCL is leaning into QD-Mini LED tech. It’s a fancy way of saying you get vibrant, punchy colors combined with precise light control. Think deep blacks, vivid hues, and that cinematic pop we’re all chasing. This is not your average budget TV—it’s got some real visual clout.

    The Price Game

    Here’s where TCL really sticks it to the competition. A 75-inch QLED with a 144Hz refresh rate for R20,000… Samsung’s closest comparable model is R24,000 and it only hits a 50Hz refresh rate. That’s a no-brainer in my book. Plus, TCL is throwing in a soundbar with the 65″ and 75″ models, so you’re getting both visual and audio upgrades in one package.

    For those wanting a slightly smaller screen, the 55” model is R9,999, still way below what you’d pay for anything else with these specs.

    What’s Improved?

    TCL has clearly learned from its previous releases. Earlier models were decent but lacked some refinement. This time though, you get the sense that you’re getting way more than what you paid for. Compared to previous models, the C6K series brings some significant upgrades that make it feel more polished and purposeful. One of the biggest changes is in the display technology. TCL has integrated new high-efficiency light-emitting chips, which not only enhance brightness but also ensure more precise light and shadow control. This means you get deeper contrasts and sharper details, even in darker scenes, something the older models occasionally struggled with.

    Another major improvement is the introduction of better image processing algorithms. These help in reducing noise, improving upscaling, and maintaining color accuracy during fast-paced scenes. It’s all about minimizing those visual hiccups that can take you out of the experience, especially when gaming or watching dynamic content.

    Friday Tech Pick

    The TCL C6K series is a breath of fresh air in a market that’s often bogged down by inflated price tags and underwhelming specs. If you’re after a big screen with fluid motion and vivid colors without gutting your wallet, this one’s for you. It’s an easy choice for my Friday Tech Pick—and a solid addition to any living room.
