Attention Super Marios Bros. fans: The new Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer has landed, and it’s basically a power-up for your eyeballs! Illumination and Nintendo also pulled back the curtain on a first glimpse of the most hotly anticipated newcomer to the animated universe. After months of speculation and tease eggs cracking in the post-credits of the first film, our dinosaur dude Yoshi finally rolls onto the big screen in full glorious animated form. And yes, he’s every bit as adorable as fans dreamed. But he won’t be the only dinosaur in the movie, as the trailer also highlights Birdo and a T.Rex that originally made an appearance in 2017’s Super Mario Odyssey.
We see Mario and Luigi stumbling into a mysterious cave, torching up with Fire Flowers, only to discover Yoshi lurking behind some rubble right when you least expect it. Before you can yell “YOSHI!” in your best videogame shouting voice, he’s already helping defend baby Mario and baby Luigi alongside Toad in a wild battle sequence. But the trailer doesn’t stop there. Oh no. It shows Birdo hurling eggs at Princess Peach. Gives Luigi a Frog Suit power-up moment straight out of classic games. And even peppers in blink-and-you’ll-miss-it characters like Mouser and a towering T-Rex straight from Super Mario Odyssey.
And here’s the icing on the cake, Nintendo and Illumination have wrangled the release date earlier than expected. The movie will now open in the United States and many other countries on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 moving up from April 3 (It will be released in Japan April 24, and other markets throughout the month). This just might be the Easter weekend blockbuster your inner gamer’s been craving.
But that’s not all. The original crew including Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, Keegan-Michael Key, and Jack Black, are all returning. We also see new faces like Brie Larson’s Rosalina, another princess who lives in outer space and raises the Lumas stepping up as well. The whole thing feels like a nostalgia mash-up tossed into a cosmic blender. Expect old power-ups, classic characters, and that gleeful Mario chaos that hits like a 1-Up mushroom straight to the heart.

In short? This trailer doesn’t just tease Yoshi. It showcases a movie that looks ready to blast way beyond the Mushroom Kingdom and into full-on galaxy adventure mode.
