HONOR just can’t seem to slow down. If anything, the brand is accelerating especially in South Africa, actively chasing Samsung’s crown.

Following the recent launch of the X9d mid-ranger and the announcement of the Magic8 Pro, which lands in South Africa on 1 March, HONOR has now issued an early teaser for its next big statement device. The HONOR Magic V6 foldable, set to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 1 March.

Pricing and local availability have not yet been confirmed, but the intent is obvious. HONOR is building momentum across every major smartphone category, and the Magic V6 looks set to be the brand’s most confident foldable yet.

A foldable designed to change the durability conversation

Foldables have come a long way, but durability remains the biggest question mark for many users. HONOR seems determined to confront that concern head-on with the Magic V6.

Despite its ultra-slim profile, HONOR says the Magic V6 reaches a new benchmark for foldable strength. To prove the point, the company subjected the device to what it calls a Zipline challenge, using the phone as a core supporting mechanism for a zipline that carried the weight of a person across a lake.

Joe Weller is about to jump… and the only thing between him and gravity is a HONOR Magic V6's hinge. 😱😱😱

Will both the hinge and Joe survive?

What HONOR has revealed so far

HONOR has shared several durability-focused highlights that position the Magic V6 as a potential industry first in multiple areas.

The Magic V6 is set to be the only foldable so far with both IP68 and IP69 ratings, offering top-tier protection against dust and water. For a device with a complex hinge and folding display, this is a significant claim.

At the heart of the device is a 2800MPa HONOR Super Steel hinge, made from what the company describes as the strongest special steel ever used in a commercial product. The hinge is the most critical component of any foldable, and HONOR is clearly placing its engineering confidence here.

The displays also play a major role. HONOR says the Magic V6 leads the industry in anti-scratch, anti-wear, and anti-reflection performance. The inner display combines reinforced UTG glass with specialised low-reflectivity coatings, achieving a claimed reflection rate of just 1.5 percent while maintaining high impact resistance.

Taken together, the message is consistent. The Magic V6 is not being positioned as just another slim foldable but rather a durable one.

Why this matters for South Africa

HONOR has not yet confirmed whether the Magic V6 will launch locally, but the broader context is important.

The Magic V5 was named Foldable Phone of the Year on Geekhub in 2025, setting a strong foundation for the series. That device proved that HONOR could deliver a foldable that felt practical, polished, and competitive in real-world use.

Now, with a clear push across mid-range, flagship, and foldable segments, HONOR appears to be strengthening its long-term commitment to the South African market. If the Magic V6 does arrive locally, it will do so with expectations already in place.

    The Geekhub take, so far

Right now, there’s a lot of marketing noise as with most phones just about to be unveiled.

But HONOR is making it clear that the Magic V6 is built to be used, not handled with caution. If the final device delivers on these durability promises while maintaining the design and performance standards set by its predecessor, the Magic V6 could be one of the most compelling foldables of 2026.

We will be watching MWC closely and will bring full coverage as soon as HONOR reveals more.
