Geeky Friday Pick: Mophie Universal Wireless 3-in-1 Extendable Stand with MagSafe

Our Geeky Friday pick this week is a premium MagSafe charger for Apple fans who love form and function. If you think wireless chargers are just plastic coasters with a cable attached, Mophie would like a word. Their 3-in-1 Extendable Stand with MagSafe isn’t just a charger — it’s a desk flex. For Apple fans with taste (and disposable income), this is one of the cleanest setups on the market right now.

But is it R3K-level clean? Or just another overpriced status symbol that happens to charge stuff? Well, If you’ve ever wished your wireless charger could do a bit more than just lie there and blink… this one’s for you.

The Mophie 3-in-1 Extendable Stand with MagSafe is designed for people who treat their desk setup like interior decor. It’s sleek. It’s functional. It’s definitely expensive. But it also might be the best MagSafe stand you can buy — if you can justify the price tag.

Here’s what you need to know before dropping R2,999 on a charger.

Design: More than just a pretty stand

This is where Mophie sets itself apart. The headline feature is the extendable iPhone arm, which rises from 7.5 to 16 inches. That gives you full control over your angle — whether you’re FaceTiming, taking Zoom calls, or recording vertical video.

I tested it out while shooting reels for Instagram and TikTok — and honestly, it nailed the framing every time. No tripod. No books stacked behind the phone. Just clean, stable elevation.
The MagSafe mount is tilt-adjustable too, giving you more flexibility than most fixed stands. The weighted steel base is very solid — and it gives the whole unit a premium presence on your desk.

That said, it’s mostly plastic, not metal. High-end plastic with a matte finish, but still, plastic. If you’re expecting something CNC-machined and cold to the touch, you’ll be slightly underwhelmed.

Charging: Fast, efficient, and just works

Mophie’s MagSafe mount delivers up to 15W to iPhones, and the Apple Watch charger supports fast charging for Series 7 and up.

    Real-world results:

iPhone 16 Pro: 0 to 50% in ~56 minutes, full charge in just over 2.5 hours.
Apple Watch: Tops up rapidly, but placement can be a bit sensitive — it occasionally shifts off the sweet spot.
There’s also a 5W Qi pad built into the base for AirPods or other compatible earbuds.

One drawback? The proprietary power brick. Lose it and your USB-C collection won’t save you.

    Alternatives: Mophie vs Belkin

At R2,999, this stand goes up against heavy hitters like the Belkin 3-in-1 Wireless Charger.

    Where Mophie wins:

Extendable iPhone mount = more versatile angles
    Stronger base = less wobble
Built for creators who care about framing and flexibility

    Where Belkin edges ahead:

    Slightly more refined design (subjective)
    More compact footprint
Simple, fixed layout = fewer moving parts

    GeekVerdict: Is it worth 3k?

In all honesty— no one needs a R2,999 charger and that’s if you can even find a place that stocks it (come on ZAGG South Africa) – But if you spend hours at your desk, care about how your gear looks, and want something that works as good as it looks, the Mophie 3-in-1 Extendable Stand is a seriously slick bit of kit.

It’s not perfect. It’s not cheap. But it does exactly what it promises — and it does it with style.

If that sounds like your vibe? You won’t regret it.

If not? Your R500 Takealot special will still charge your phone just fine.
