These rules govern the Geekhub Comic Con Africa 2026 ticket giveaway. They are published in terms of section 36 of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 and are available to anyone, free of charge, with no registration required. Entering the competition means you accept them.
1. Who is running this
The promoter is Geekhub (geekhub.co.za), contactable at shana@geekhub.co.za
Comic Con Africa and its organisers supplied the prize tickets but are not running this competition and are not responsible for its administration.
2. Competition period
- Entries open on Thursday 27 August 2026.
- Entries close at 12:00 SAST on Monday 14 September 2026.
- Any entry received after the closing time will not be counted, regardless of the reason for the delay.
3. Who may enter
- You must be 18 years or older on the date you enter.
- You must be a natural person resident in South Africa.
- You must be able to attend Comic Con Africa at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec, on Friday 25 September 2026, and to arrange your own transport there.
- Directors, members, partners, employees, agents and consultants of the promoter, of Comic Con Africa and its organisers, of any sponsor of this competition, and of any of their advertising or promotional agencies, may not enter. Nor may the spouse, life partner, business partner, associate, parent, child, brother or sister of any of those persons.
- One person may not enter under multiple identities, email addresses or phone numbers. Doing so disqualifies every entry connected to that person.
4. How to enter
Entry is free. No purchase is required and nothing beyond your standard data or network charges will ever be payable to enter or to claim a prize.
- Complete the entry form on the Geekhub competition article, supplying your name, a valid email address and a contactable mobile number.
- Tick the box confirming you have read and accept these rules. Entries without that confirmation cannot be counted.
- That submission is your base entry, and it counts as one entry in the draw.
Additional entries
- The promoter has published three code words, each hidden in the body of an article on geekhub.co.za. Two are available from the opening of the competition and the third is published in early September 2026.
- Submitting a valid code word through the entry form earns one additional entry per code word.
- You may submit once per calendar day. Multiple submissions on the same day count as one.
- Each code word may be counted once per entrant. Repeating a code word you have already submitted does not earn a further entry.
- Code words remain valid until entries close.
- The maximum number of entries available to any one person is four, being one base entry plus three code word entries.
5. The prize
- Three prizes are available, each consisting of two general admission day passes to Comic Con Africa 2026 for Friday 25 September 2026 only, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec.
- The total prize pool consists of six day passes with an approximate combined retail value of R1,620, based on a general admission day pass price of R270.
- The passes cover venue entry only. Travel, parking, food, drink, merchandise, celebrity autograph and photograph sessions, paid experiences and any other cost of attending are the winner’s own responsibility.
- Prizes are not transferable, cannot be exchanged, and there is no cash alternative in whole or in part.
- The passes are valid only for the stated date. They cannot be moved to another day of the event and expire unused if not redeemed on 25 September 2026.
- Guests must comply with all Comic Con Africa venue terms, including its prop and weapon policies, bag checks and code of conduct. Refusal of entry by the organisers for breach of those terms is not the promoter’s responsibility and no substitute or refund will be offered.
6. How winners are chosen
- After entries close, all valid entries are compiled into a single list in which each entrant appears once for every entry they have earned.
- Three winners are drawn at random from that list on Monday 14 September 2026, in the presence of an independent witness who is not connected to the promoter.
- Three reserve entrants are drawn at the same time, in order, in case a winner cannot be reached or declines the prize.
- One prize per person. If the same entrant is drawn twice, the second draw is discarded and another is made.
- The draw is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding its outcome.
7. Notification and claiming
- Winners will be contacted directly by email and by phone or WhatsApp on Monday 14 September 2026, using the details supplied at entry.
- Winners’ names will also be published on geekhub.co.za at 18:00 SAST on Monday 14 September 2026 and across Geekhub’s social channels.
- A winner must confirm acceptance within 24 hours of first being contacted. If no response is received within that period, the prize passes to the next reserve entrant in order.
- The promoter may ask a winner to provide proof of identity and age before releasing the prize.
- Prizes will be delivered electronically to the winner’s supplied email address in good time before 25 September 2026.
- Nothing is payable to receive the prize.
8. Publicity
By entering, you agree that if you win, your first name, surname initial and city may be published as part of the winner announcement. Anything further, including photographs from the event, will only be used with your separate consent, and declining costs you nothing.
9. Your personal information
Geekhub is the responsible party for the personal information collected through this competition, in terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.
- What we collect: your name, email address, mobile number, the code words you submit, your answer to the optional fandom question, and the referral source recorded when you land on the entry page.
- Why: to administer this competition, to verify entries, to conduct the draw and to contact winners.
- Marketing: the entry form includes a separate, optional and unticked box for Geekhub email updates. You can enter and win without ticking it. If you do tick it, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email we send.
- Sharing: winners’ names are shared with Comic Con Africa’s organisers solely to issue the passes. Your information is not sold, rented or shared with anyone else.
- Retention: entry records are kept for three years as required under the Consumer Protection Act, after which they are deleted. Contact details of entrants who did not opt in to marketing are not used for any purpose beyond this competition.
- Your rights: you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by emailing shana@geekhub.co.za You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
10. General
- The promoter may disqualify any entry it reasonably believes to be fraudulent, automated, duplicated or otherwise in breach of these rules.
- The promoter is not responsible for entries that are lost, delayed or not received due to network failure, technical fault or any cause outside its reasonable control.
- If circumstances beyond the promoter’s control make it necessary, the promoter may amend these rules or cancel the competition. Any change will be published on this page, and entrants will not be worse off in respect of entries already submitted where this can reasonably be avoided.
- To the extent permitted by law, the promoter, Comic Con Africa’s organisers and any sponsor are not liable for any loss, damage or injury arising from participation in this competition or attendance at the event.
- Nothing in these rules limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act.
- These rules are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.
