Believe in the Magic: “That Christmas” Delivers Heartwarming Holiday Cheer

For all those kids who need a little inspiration when it comes to believing in themselves (and maybe even more than Santa Claus), this one’s for you! Netflix’s new animated movie, “That Christmas,” directed by Simon Otto, is based on the beloved children’s book trilogy by multi-award-winning author Richard Curtis, the mastermind behind heartwarming classics like “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” “Notting Hill,” and “Love Actually.” This delightful holiday feature offers something for everyone, especially those who cherish acts of kindness and love.

    Quirky Characters and Christmas Chaos

Set in the seaside town of Wellington, “That Christmas” introduces a vibrant community of quirky characters, from sassy reindeer to a flock of hilarious turkeys, all eager to share their tales of Christmases that almost went up in smoke. The animation focuses on three children grappling with unique challenges that are amplified by the pressure of creating a perfect Christmas.

    Overcoming Challenges and Finding Self-Worth

Danny misses his dad terribly and struggles to see the pain his mom is going through. Sam worries that her mischievous sister, Charlie, will get nothing but coal in her stocking, despite knowing that Charlie is more misunderstood than naughty. And Bernie, the natural leader, finds himself in charge of a babysitting job that stretches far longer than expected when their parents get stranded in a blizzard.

These characters, plagued by doubts about their self-worth due to absent parents or conflicts with authority figures, find solace in a powerful message of self-love and acceptance. And who better to deliver that message than Richard Curtis himself, reminding every child that they matter. Even Santa Claus makes a timely appearance, delivering some strategically placed presents when the grown-ups are nowhere to be found.

A Christmas Miracle in the Making

Can the Kiddo’s overcome their challenges, discover the true meaning of the season, and create a Christmas miracle? Grab your popcorn, gather your loved ones, and settle in for a heartwarming adventure this December 6th. Don’t miss the magic only on Netflix!

After 28 years in corporate life, I swapped spreadsheets for screenplays and now write movie reviews and celebrity articles for Geekhub. It’s been a year of creative freedom, storytelling, and loving what I do—plus the occasional dramatic reaction to plot twists. No more meetings, just movies—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
