Universal Pictures is bringing the beloved “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise to life with a live-action remake.
Writer-director Dean DeBlois, who’s been with the franchise since its inception, is at the helm of this ambitious project. The film, slated for release on June 13, 2025, is a faithful adaptation of the 2010 animated hit, recreating iconic scenes and dialogue with live-action visuals.
Mason Thames (“The Black Phone,” “Incoming”) steps into the role of Hiccup, the young Viking who befriends a dragon named Toothless. Nico Parker (“The Last of Us”) takes on the role of Astrid, Hiccup’s fierce and loyal companion. The cast also features some familiar voices from the animated franchise, including Gerard Butler reprising his role as Stoick the Vast, Hiccup’s formidable father.
The live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” follows Hiccup’s journey from dragon hunter to dragon rider. Caught between his tribe’s traditions and his newfound friendship with Toothless, Hiccup must challenge expectations and forge a new path for himself and his people.
