Married couples know there are two sides to every story… and then there’s the version that actually happened! Now, imagine if your spouse had secrets that involved national security. That’s the kind of high-stakes drama unfolding in Black Bag ! This upcoming spy thriller throws us into the world of George (Michael Fassbender)and Kathryn Woodhouse (Cate Blanchett), a power couple with a lot more than just relationship baggage.
The movie is directed by Steven Soderbergh best known for films such as Traffic and Sex, Lies, and Videotape in collaboration with screenwriter David Koepp. The trailer kicks off with an intense exchange between the film’s central couple, as Kathryn discloses that she’s heading to “Black Bag.” The scene then shifts to George reflecting on the realities of being married to someone in Kathryn’s line of work.

From her perspective, her unwavering commitment to their marriage is actually her greatest professional vulnerability. The trailer then unveils a major plot twist where, George is tasked with uncovering a leak in a high-stakes case, with his own wife as the prime suspect. When Kathryn is accused of betraying the country, George must make the ultimate decision on whether to trust his wife or his instincts. After all it takes a spy, to hunt a spy!
One of the most well-known examples of this dynamic is Mr. & Mrs. Smith, starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. A movie where a married couple shockingly discover they are both secret assassins assigned to eliminate each other. Black Bag, however, takes a more dramatic and intense approach, offering a high-stakes thriller in contrast to the action-comedy tone of Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Produced by Casey Silver and Greg Jacobs, the star cast also includes Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, and Pierce Brosnan. This action-packed thriller is set to hit theatres on 14th March 2025.
Get ready for a movie that might make you side-eye your partner just a little?
