Jeff Bezos Called Out for ‘Gluttonous’ Wedding by Hollywood Stars

Actress Charlize Theron dropped some candid remarks at her Africa Outreach Project benefit on June 28, 2025, essentially mocking the lavish Venice wedding. She quipped, “I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding… but that’s OK because they suck and we’re cool”

Insiders claim Jeff Bezos was livid, viewing Theron’s comments as uncalled for and disrespectful. Lauren Sánchez reportedly wanted to respond via Instagram but was allegedly “talked down” from doing so. Rumour has it that the couple has even barred Theron from any future “Bezos-adjacent” events, yacht weekends, Blue Origin outings, charity galas and more.

The Theron plot twist isn’t isolated. Bezos & Sánchez have faced a wave of criticism over the extravagance of their multi‑day, approximately $50 million celebration. Rosie O’Donnell slammed the wedding as “gross excess,” referring to Sánchez as a “fake fembot” and accusing Bezos of treating employees “with disdain”. Joing the backlash was Liz Plank, in a viral Substack piece titled “Paper Straws for You, Private Jets for Them,” condemned the couple’s celebration as tone-deaf amidst income inequality and climate vulnerability, accusing them of flaunting while global reforms are needed. These remarks highlight a cultural clash of the opulent billionaire ceremony vs. growing public awareness of wealth disparity and environmental responsibility.

The diva-level back-and-forth isn’t just drama, it amplifies criticism of extreme wealth in a world battling poverty, pandemic recovery, and climate crisis.
Bezos’ Blue Origin, Amazon workforce, and Sánchez’s public image may all feel ripple effects from this feud. Critics argue that excessive shows of opulence have tangible, reputational consequences. And the fact is that, Theron’s quip, though snarky, tapped into a wider sentiment where some high-profile voices are turning absence into protest. Her absence and her takedown, underscore a divide in how fame and power mingle.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez are reportedly still seething over Charlize Theron’s blunt critique of their Venice wedding. They even seem to have cut her off socially for the offence. But the sparks go deeper,  Rosie O’Donnell and Liz Plank’s condemnations reflect a broader unease with ballooning wealth, environmental hypocrisy, and celebrity optics. The bottom is that this isn’t just a Hollywood spat, it’s a cultural flashpoint over wealth, visibility, and who gets to celebrate in style while others struggle.
