First Look at Netflix’s Narnia Finally Unveils Greta Gerwig’s Highly Anticipated Fantasy Adaptation

Netflix’s long awaited adaptation of C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia has officially entered its filming phase and now, for the first time, we have set photos to prove it. MovieWeb brings us exclusive images from the production of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, which recently began shooting in London.

The photographs capture a bustling period drama set in post-war Britain, complete with extras, props, and bustling city streets which makes a notable shift from the novel’s original Victorian era setting. One on-site observer reported that the film appears to be set in 1955.

The creative team behind the camera includes director Greta Gerwig, who also penned the screenplay. The story will follow Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer as they unwittingly open the door to the magical world, and its greatest threat.

On-screen talent remains under wraps officially, but reports suggest a high-profile ensemble. Emma Mackey is said to portray the White Witch, Daniel Craig has been offered the role of Uncle Andrew, Carey Mulligan is in talks for an unspecified part, and Meryl Streep is expected to voice Aslan.

Filming kicked off in earnest this past weekend in and around Bank Station and The Royal Exchange in London. Gerwig was spotted on set alongside the young actors believed to be portraying Digory and Polly, though their names remain unconfirmed.

This first look offers fans their earliest glimpse of Gerwig’s reimagined Narnia world and signals that The Magician’s Nephew is now in full swing toward its late-2026 release.

It’s been a year of creative freedom, storytelling, and loving what I do—plus the occasional dramatic reaction to plot twists. No more meetings, just movies—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
