The Thomas Crown Affair: It’s Not Just A Heist

Fresh off his Oscar win, Michael B. Jordan redefines The Thomas Crown Affair with a stylish, high-stakes heist story

Michael B. Jordan is back in the news with a project that sees him stepping into The Thomas Crown Affair. A slick, calculated, and just a little dangerous movie, which is probably right up his alley. After his recent Best Actor win at the 2026 Oscars for Sinners, he is heading straight into rewriting the rules of how cool a heist film can feel. Will this also be a hit? Let’s find out.

According to ScreenRant, who were on the ground at CinemaCon 2026, Jordan personally introduced footage from the film during Amazon MGM’s panel. Now, if you didn’t know, The Thomas Crown Affair has been in the making for over a decade. Jordan pitched the movie in 2016, however, the project wasn’t officially announced until 2024, when Jordan was confirmed to direct and produce, the movie. It’s been a long time coming and the first footage aptly displays the Thomas Crown DNA of wealth, danger, and the kind of charm that makes you question your own moral compass.

The story still revolves around Thomas Crown (Michael B. Jordan), a billionaire who steals not because he needs to… but because he wants to feel something. A man who treats crime with precision and control, like an elegant form of art. But of course, a man like that attracts attention especially by insurance agencies. And so we meet an insurance investigator, played by Adria Arjona. Now when I say the game starts her, it is no exaggeration. There’s enough flirtation and suspicion to make you wonder if either of them actually wants to win. Lo and behold, while this is all happening, something real starts to form. With a cat-and-mouse dynamic that is still very much intact, but comes across as a more modern sort of play. It’s less about chasing and more about understanding who you’re chasing.

The footage shown at CinemaCon, has a great deal of balance. One moment, you’re watching quiet, almost intimate exchanges across a table, and in the  next, you’re thrown into high-speed chases, physical confrontations, and gravity-defying stunts that remind you Crown is as fearless as he is clever. Talk about a polished movie. From the tailored suits to the way scenes unfold, it carries that same seductive energy that made the 1999 version so iconic. But Jordan has updated the formula. This comes with more edge and urgency and  Less nostalgia.

The supporting cast is just as polished. The cast includes Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Aubrey Plaza, Ruth Negga, and others that hint at a world that’s bigger, more layered, and possibly more dangerous than previous versions ever explored. Although it is the……intent that stands out the most. Jordan has made it clear, both on stage and through the footage, that this isn’t just about pulling off a stylish heist. It’s about control and identity. The thrill of living outside the lines, and what it costs when someone finally sees through you. Because beneath all the luxury and adrenaline, arises a quieter question sitting underneath it all. What happens when the game stops being fun?

The Thomas Crown Affair is currently set for release in March 2027.  And if this first look is anything to go by, this isn’t just a remake.

    It’s a flex.

After 28 years in corporate life, I swapped spreadsheets for screenplays and now write movie reviews and celebrity articles for Geekhub. It’s been a year of creative freedom, storytelling, and loving what I do—plus the occasional dramatic reaction to plot twists. No more meetings, just movies—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
