Arnold Schwarzenegger, the man that fought Predators, battled Terminators, and survived explosions that would have burnt most to a crisp teams up with Liam Hemsworth who faced deadly arenas in The Hunger Games and stepped into the boots of Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. These action stars are now joining forces for a brand-new movie called The Kellys. You better hold on tight, cos this is gonna be one chaotic ride.
Deadline has it that, Amazon MGM Studios has secured the worldwide rights to the new action film that will stream exclusively on Prime Video. If you enjoyed movies like Rampage and San Andreas, this one’s for you. The Kellys comes from Brad Peyton, the director behind action-packed blockbusters like Rampage and San Andreas.
The story itself is something we’ve seen before but with a little twist. The story follows Jack Kelly, a disgraced New York police officer whose life spirals into chaos when terrorists take his wife, Molly hostage inside an old armoury building. Faced with impossible odds, Jack is forced to do something he never wanted to do. Work alongside his own family. I mean what could be so terrifying about that, right?
Well…..The Kelly family isn’t your average family. They’re a loud, unpredictable, and a slightly unhinged clan of police officers who have a habit of charging directly into trouble. So in trying to save his wife, Jack must rely on the very people who drive him completely insane. And if that setup sounds like Die Hard collided headfirst with a family reunion, you’re probably on the right track.
The project also reunites Schwarzenegger and Hemsworth more than a decade after they appeared together in The Expendables 2. Back then they shared limited screen time. This time they’ll be front and centre, which is reason enough for action fans to pay attention. For Schwarzenegger, The Kellys adds another major project to an increasingly busy schedule. The action legend recently returned to television with FUBAR. And is also set to appear in the holiday action-comedy The Man with the Bag. Which will be directed by Adam Shankman. Hemsworth, meanwhile, continues to build momentum following his takeover of Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher. And also Susannah Grant’s romantic drama Lonely Planet for the same streamer
Now it’s no surprise that there aren’t more details of the plot or cast floating around. We will have to wait for more announcements on that. But you have to admit that when you combine Arnold Schwarzenegger, Liam Hemsworth, Brad Peyton, and a family of cops caught in the middle of a terrorist siege, it already feels like Prime Video may have found its next big action hit.
And let’s be honest. Watching Arnold solve family problems with explosions has never really gone out of style.
