Friday Tech Pick: TP-Link Deco S7 – The Wi-Fi Mesh That Finally Did What 10K Worth of Gear Couldn’t

Let me paint the picture: 500 Mbps fibre up and down. Solid speeds right? But my router was stuck in the living room, basically shouting into a void when it came to reaching the far corners of my 600 square metre double-storey house.

If you’ve ever tried running a business from a home office with sketchy signal, you know the pain. I tried everything, from range extenders, mesh kits from “big brands,” even hardwired access points. Nothing worked. Or rather, they “worked” about as well as duct tape on a cracked windshield. I spent over R10,000 on gear and got nothing but lag, dropouts, and a bruised ego.

Then came the hail mary: two TP-Link Deco S7 3-packs, on special at Incredible Connection for R2,999 each. I figured one last try before I gave up and ran CAT6 through the ceiling.

And it worked. Like, actually bloody worked.

    Setup That Doesn’t Suck

The setup process was criminally simple. I fired up the Deco app, followed the prompts, and within 15 minutes, all six units were online, humming in sync under one SSID. No nonsense. No IT degree required.

My entire house is now blanketed in strong, stable Wi-Fi. My office, which used to feel like a Wi-Fi black hole, now consistently pulls 300 Mbps. Upstairs, downstairs, even outside on the patio—coverage is flawless.

What Makes the Deco S7 So Good?

    • Dual-band AC1900 speeds – That’s 1300 Mbps on 5GHz and 600 Mbps on 2.4GHz. More than enough for streaming, video calls, and whatever other bandwidth-hungry thing you’re into.
    • 3×3 MU-MIMO – Fancy talk for handling multiple devices at once without choking.
    • Three Gigabit ports per unit – Plug in consoles, smart TVs, or anything that prefers wired stability.
    • Seamless roaming – Walk around the house and your phone just switches nodes without a hitch.
    • Easy app control – Change settings, run speed tests, or pause the internet on your kid’s devices with a few taps.

     This Thing Delivers

For R6,000 total, the Deco S7 system turned my house from a signal graveyard into a fortress of stable, fast Wi-Fi. No more buffering on streamyard. No more slow downloads in the back rooms. Just solid performance.

Its not perfect, It’s still Wi-Fi 5 (not the newer Wi-Fi 6), but unless you’re doing hardcore file transfers or have 100 smart devices fighting for airtime, you won’t notice the difference.

    Worth It?

Absolutely. If you’re in a big house or struggling with dead zones, stop wasting time and money on half-measures. The TP-Link Deco S7 is the real deal.

It’s not just another mesh kit. It’s the mesh kit that finally fixed my Wi-Fi once and for all.
