My Oxford Year : A Bookish Love Story

Pack your trench coat and poetry anthology as Netflix is taking us across the pond for a swoon-worthy semester with My Oxford Year. But don’t expect dusty lectures and quiet libraries alone. This trailer throws us into a whirlwind of wit, wine, and romantic what-ifs, where love blooms between ancient archways and emotional landmines. With Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest lighting up the screen, it’s brains-meets-heart in the most British way possible.

The trailer opens with sweeping shots of Oxford’s iconic quad, vaulted libraries, and ivy‑draped arches. It instantly establishes the university as more than just a backdrop. That grandeur pieces beautifully with the story’s promise of a sweeping, emotionally profound romance.

We meet Anna (Sofia Carson), a poised and determined American grad student, and Jamie (Corey Mylchreest), the charming local poetry tutor. Their quick banter hints at sharp chemistry, playful smiles, a quiet goodbye, eyes that linger which builds toward that classic “enemies-to-lovers” trope. The trailer blends intimate glances with moments of tension. Anna is seen balancing academia and career ambitions. While Jamie is definitely holding back something personal, late-night debates, stolen kisses. The vibe screams intelligent yet heartfelt romance, well-rooted in both passion and conflict.

Although billed as a romantic drama, the playful nods, students at pubs, spilled books and knowing looks, betray its comedic touch. Director Iain Morris, known for The Inbetweeners, infuses classic Brit‑com charm, ensuring the emotional beats are often lightened with humour.

Adapted for the screen by Allison Burnett and Melissa Osborne, from a story by Burnett, pic’s cast also includes Dougray Scott, Catherine McCormack, Harry Trevaldwyn, Esmé Kingdom, Nikhil Parmar, and Poppy Gilbert.

    Geek Verdict:

The trailer hits all the right notes for fans of heartfelt, smartly written romance. My Oxford Year promises an emotionally resonant, book-inspired love story, buoyed by genuine chemistry, scenic grandeur, and comedic warmth.

After 28 years in corporate life, I swapped spreadsheets for screenplays and now write movie reviews and celebrity articles for Geekhub. It’s been a year of creative freedom, storytelling, and loving what I do—plus the occasional dramatic reaction to plot twists. No more meetings, just movies—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
