The all-new C7 from OMODA has arrived on South African soil, and it’s aiming to turn heads. Launched on 11 November 2025, this compact SUV slots neatly between the C5 X Series and the range-topping C9, bringing together a sharp design, advanced tech and a choice of powertrains for buyers who want more than just the usual.

    Design & Presence

The C7 stands out from the crowd. Its highlight features include:

    • A distinctive “X-shaped” frameless grille that gives a strong visual identity.
    • Slim LED headlights with integrated daytime-running lights, showing off a modern vibe.
    • Sculpted body lines, sporty red-painted brake callipers and standard 19-inch wheels (20-inch on the SHS plug-in hybrid variant).
The overall impression: whether you’re rolling through city streets or cruising on the highway, the C7 is made to stand out.

    Powertrains & Performance

Here’s where the C7 offers meaningful choice:

    • The petrol model features a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine delivering 145 kW and 290 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Fuel consumption is rated at around 7.5 L/100 km.
    • For those looking for electrified performance, the SHS (plug-in hybrid) variant pairs a 1.5-litre turbo engine with an electric motor, producing a combined output of 255 kW and 525 Nm. It features an 18.4 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, an all-electric range of about 105 km, and a total range of approx. 1 200 km.
    • Charging: The battery can charge from 30-80% in around 20 minutes via a 40 kW fast charger, or 25-100% in about 160 minutes on a 6.6 kW charger.
    • Handling: The setup includes a MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear configuration, with front ventilated discs and solid discs at the rear – supporting a dynamic yet comfortable ride.

    Interior, Tech & Practicality

Step inside and the C7 blends modern tech with usable space:

    • A 2 720 mm wheelbase gives good legroom for both front and rear occupants.
    • Boot space: 614 litres in the 1.6 TGDI petrol variant; 537 litres in the SHS hybrid with the second row upright. Both offer a 1 250 kg towing capacity — useful for trailers or gear for weekend getaways.
    • The cabin is finished in black leather upholstery, with electrically adjustable front seats that include heating and ventilation, plus a driver seat memory function. Dual-zone climate control is standard.
    • Tech features include an 8.88-inch digital cluster, a large 15.6-inch infotainment display integrating vehicle controls, climate and media, plus smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
    • Premium entertainment: the petrol model gets an 8-speaker Sony sound system; the SHS variant receives a 12-speaker Sony setup and a 50-watt wireless charging pad. Ambient lighting that can be personalised adds a premium touch.

    Safety & Driver Assistance

Safety is built into the C7’s DNA:

    • Standard safety features include ABS, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and airbags (dual front, front-side, curtain, driver’s knee and front centre).
    • On top of those, the C7 offers up to 21 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Some of them include:
      • 540° panoramic camera
      • Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert & Rear Cross Traffic Brake
      • Lane Change Assist, Lane Departure Warning/Prevention, Emergency Lane Keeping
      • Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking (vehicle, pedestrian & cyclist detection)
      • Intelligent Headlight Control, Speed Limit Assist (SHS only)
This depth of driver assistance equipment places the C7 strongly in the competitive compact SUV segment.

    Warranty & Ownership Edge

OMODA is backing the C7 with robust ownership promises:

    • The 1.6 TGDI petrol model: a 5-year/75 000 km service plan, 5-year/150 000 km factory warranty.
    • The SHS plug-in hybrid model: a 7-year/200 000 km factory warranty.
    • Additionally, the SHS battery pack is covered by a 10-year/unlimited-km warranty for the first owner (along with certain electric drive-unit components).
    • Both models benefit from five years of roadside assistance (unlimited km).
    • Notably: OMODA is offering an industry-leading one-million-km/10-year engine warranty for the first owner.
This combination of warranty, service plan and roadside support gives the C7 a strong value proposition, especially in the South African market.

    Pricing & Market Position

The pricing structure (as of launch) is:

    • C7 1.6 TGDI Luxury: R 539 900
    • C7 1.6 TGDI Elegance: R 589 900
    • C7 SHS (plug-in hybrid): R 689 900

Given the competitive nature of the South African SUV market, the C7’s mix of design, tech, powertrain options and strong warranty should help it appeal to buyers looking for something fresh, well-equipped and future-oriented. The OMODA C7 will be available in South African showrooms on 11 November 2025.

Why the C7 Matters for South Africa

    • Local roads and daily commuting demand versatility, whether inner-city manoeuvring or weekend escapes. The C7’s size, equipment and powertrain flexibility make it suitable.
    • With its hybrid option offering over 100 km of EV range, it taps into increasing interest in electrified mobility without the compromises sometimes associated with full-EVs (e.g., range anxiety, charging infrastructure).
    • In a market where value and after-sales peace of mind are highly appreciated, the warranty & service offerings give buyers reassurance.
    • The design and tech credentials elevate OMODA’s brand standing locally; this is more than a base model, it’s aimed at style-conscious, tech-savvy buyers.

    Final Thoughts

The OMODA C7 is a compelling entrant. It brings bold styling, smart engineering and strong ownership backing together in a package tailored for South Africa. Whether you lean petrol or plug-in hybrid, the choice here isn’t simply between two engines, it’s about selecting a driving experience. And if the key differentiators for you are style, tech, efficiency and confidence in warranty, the C7 deserves a serious look.
