Oh Peanuts… just when you think you’ve emotionally outgrown a cartoon dog with a vivid imagination, here comes Snoopy again. This is a reminder that casually reminding you that you could forget many things, but Snoopy ain’t one of them. According to MovieWeb, the first look at Snoopy Unleashed has landed, and Peanuts is back… sneaking up on you with charm before you realise you’re fully invested. This time, the spotlight leans hard into Snoopy himself, not just as the sidekick we adore, but as the centre of the chaos.
WildBrain Studios who is in progress with the first Peanuts film since 2015, that’s almost eleven years ago. Snoopy Unleashed will follow Charlie Brown’s dog Snoopy as the imaginative beagle runs away from home. Yeah, this is going into emotional territory, I can just feel it. I mean, all decisions that start of off whimsical, slowly turns into something emotional, that’s to be expected.
And as in most animations, this will not be a solo adventure. As expected Charlie Brown and the gang follow, into a journey that takes them beyond their quiet neighbourhood and into the Big City. Peanuts mainstays Charlie Brown, Schroeder, Lucy, Franklin, Peppermint Patty, Linus, and Marcie are all present and accounted for. Other characters like Pig-Pen, Charlie Brown’s sister Sally, and Snoopy’s bright yellow bird friend Woodstock appear to be absent, at least in this image, but they could still show up in the finished movie. And if you’ve spent any time with Peanuts, you already know… this isn’t really about the destination. It’s about what gets stirred up along the way.

What’s interesting, is that, Peanuts has always thrived in small, intimate spaces. And most have either been in backyards or schoolyards, where he has spent time overthinking. Now, the shift into a setting that is bigger, louder, and buzzing with energy Moving that into a bigger, louder feels like a deliberate stretch. I wouldn’t exactly call it a reinvention. It seems more like a nudge forward. And when you look at the first image, it seems to sit somewhere between old-school nostalgia and a slightly more modern polish. It’s not too glossy, and doesn’t come across as too safe either. The image gives you just enough familiarity without holding you back
What is intriguing for me is the choice to let Snoopy lead. I mean, we all know that Snoopy has always been… a bit of everything. A dreamer, a runaway pilot, a novelist, and definitely a legend in his own head. Watching him drive the story, comes with a lot of unpredictability. We’re still waiting for the full plot breakdown, but honestly, that delay works in its favour. Why? Because Peanuts has never been about big reveals or high-stakes twists. It runs on small emotional beats that sneak in between the quiet. And if Snoopy Unleashed gets that right… it won’t need to shout. It’ll just sit there, gently wrecking you in the background while you pretend you’re watching it for the kids.
According to Deadline, Snoopy Unleashed will land on Apple TV+, which has served as the official home for all things Peanuts since 2020 and will continue to do so through at least 2030. But don’t write off a theatrical release just yet. The studio could still bring it to cinemas when they announce the official release date for Snoopy Unleashed.
