“Forgive me for all I’ve done.”
Well, that’s one way to begin saying goodbye. Warner Bros. Pictures has released the final trailer for Dune: Part Three. Denis Villeneuve clearly has no intention of ending his trilogy quietly. The footage promises enormous battles, political betrayal and enough sand to make you reconsider every complaint you have ever made about dust.
But beneath all that spectacle sits something far more troubling.
Paul Atreides has become Emperor, and the consequences of his rise are finally catching up with him. Nearly two decades have passed since he seized control of the Imperium. Paul may have won the throne, but the final trailer makes it clear that keeping it will come at a rather terrible cost. Timothée Chalamet returns as Paul, alongside Zendaya as Chani. Their relationship appears to sit at the centre of the story, although romance becomes slightly complicated when rebellion, prophecy and possible assassination enter the conversation.
And then there is Robert Pattinson.
The actor joins the franchise as a new threat to Paul’s rule, looking exactly like someone who has arrived to create problems and enjoy every minute of it. Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Anya Taylor-Joy and Javier Bardem also return, giving the film a cast almost as intimidating as the sandworms.
According to Warner Bros. Pictures, Dune: Part Three will bring Villeneuve’s trilogy to its conclusion. The film draws from Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, a story that examines what happens after the supposed hero wins. And that makes this chapter particularly interesting. Paul did not simply save a people or defeat an enemy. His rise unleashed consequences across the galaxy.
Now he has to face them.
The trailer looks absolutely enormous. Armies collide, ships fill the sky and people stare into the distance as though Hans Zimmer has personally warned them that something dreadful is approaching. But Villeneuve has already proved that scale means very little without emotion. Dune: Part Two gave us sandworms and warfare, but it also showed Paul slowly becoming the person everyone feared he might become.
This final chapter must now finish that transformation.
And honestly, this is not a trailer you watch casually while checking your phone. Put it on the largest screen available, turn up the volume and give it your full attention. Warner Bros. has delivered one last invitation to Arrakis, and everything suggests that Villeneuve intends to leave quite an impression before the sand settles.
Dune: Part Three arrives internationally on 16 December and in North American cinemas and IMAX on 18 December.

Paul Atreides may have conquered the universe, but surviving what comes next appears to be another matter entirely.
